What id the windows OEM preinstallation kit used for. I got it when I ordered a mainboard and oem xp prof? Thanks Bruce

Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?

I too was sent the pre-installation CD. Basically it allows a manufacturer to get their logo on the endusers screen during startup and to customize the install and presentation at startup. It also allows you to pre-configure the actual install of XP so you don't have to sit through it and answer all the questions. Although one would presume you would have to sit through the pre-install and answer those questions..heh heh..

Also, this CD can be opened and explored...read the readme for exact details of what it does.

XP will install fine without it.

It's a really handy tool to have when installing XP on multiple machines. I use it at my job when we build like 50 or so machines in a week. It allows you to set up the installation on a server and then have everything install from there, then "reseal" the computer so that when the end user takes it home, they get to walk through all the BS when they first turn it on, ie. product key, registration, but any software can already be installed.
