I am using XP professional and have installed SP-2. I am
having so many problems with my CDrom and DVD+RW now and
am sick of uninstalling and reinstalling them, logging
off and back on to be able to read a different disc etc.!
My last resort now is to remove SP-2 until MS work out a
fix for this problem that seems very widespread
throughout these discussion groups.
My question...... is it ok to uninstall SP-2 without
causing more problems? Anyone done it?

Hi,

Yes it's ok to uninstall SP2 if you are having problems with it. Problems, I
suspect, that stem from needing a firmware update for the optical media
drives or controller driver.

I would agree about the firmware except new firmware was
made available by the manufacturer and installed by me
only 5 days agao. Maybe the next firmware upgrade?

What about updates for your burning software?

The burning software is Nero 6 and associated InCd. They
have both been updated in this last week by me to the
latest versions on the Nero website which, without
checking, are about a week old. Even with Nero and InCd
uninstalled the discs are not recognised/read without
repeated eject/load or rebooting/relogging on
