XPS 410 video card upgrade

Hi again, My son wants to upgrade his XPS 410 video card. He plays games like COD 4 modern warfare. Could someone recomend a good card.
Perferably from newegg and around $100 .

His specs;
XPS 410 desktop
C2D e6600 2.4
Has a ati card now but not for sure what kind,its to weak all setting on low
XP
screen resulution :not for sure but pretty sure he will use what ever

I'm going to recommend the ATI HD4670. It's a decent video card and is single slot, and doesn't require additional power so you won't have to worry about the dell's psu not being strong enough for a high end card.

search for 4670 on newegg. I'd go w\ either the gigabyte one $74.99 (64.99 after rebate)

or the HIS iceQ for $99.99.

or look on ebay for one.

The best video card for under $100 is the BFG GTS 250 on sale at Frys.com for $80 AR.

However it requires a 475w PSU - and I think 500w would be better. What does your son'se computer have?

If not the GTS 250 - the 4670 mentioned by itad is good - but the 4770 is better and it requires only a 400w PSU. For $99.99 you can get several - I suggest the MSI - which is $99.99 AR:

Note that both the GTS 250 and 4770 require a 6 pin power connector - do you have one?

Thanks guys. He will be buying this in the next 2 weeks. I have been told he needs the 6 pin connector. I think I explained to him that it might be a little more that $100. Will post final card at purchase day. Thanks again.

Late to the party again, I've been avoiding this section of the forum.
375 watts / 30 amps on the 12v and a 6 pin pcie power connector, the GTS 250 would be fine.
My overclocked 8800GTS 640 is still running strong, on the same psu, after almost 3 years.

I've been trying to ask as many places as possible to get a better idea. I was wondering if this card would be able to work in my computer. (A guy from the dell forums said that the XPS stock PSU had enough power for a 450W requirement card, I just wanted a second opinion...)

It's probably better to start a new post rather than add to a thread that is months old. However, to asnwer your question, the Dell XPS 410 (and identical Vostro 410) will have no issues funning a GTS 250. Dell rates their PSUs on mean watts, not max watts. If you look at the 12V rail, there is plenty of power to run. Additionally, when the 410 was being sold, you could configure them with the GeForce 8800....Dell wouldn't let you do that if the system couldn't handle it.

I had the XPS 410, 420 & Vostro 420. The PSUs on all of them have been rock solid.

Hi, how did things go with your XPS 410 and the GTS 250? I have the same computer, and when I loaded up the drivers for the GTS 250, I couldn't get Vista to fully load any more. Can't even get it into safe mode most of the time.

I'm curious to see if you guys were successful at installing the card.

Just got it today, and it's working great.
The only thing that I can come up with for your problem (since I'm not a technician...) is that you possibly didn't uninstall the drivers for your old video card before getting the the drivers for the GTS 250?
