I have a previous release of the Zalman CNPS9500 that was for a build with the LGA 775 socket, so it didn't come with brackets to fit the LGA 1155 socket. Naturally, the Intel stock fan for my i5-2400 is atrocious and emits a loud whining sound. I'd like to transfer my Zalman to my new CPU, but unsure which mounting bracket would be best.

There is a ZM-CS5A: http://www.zalman.com/eng/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=364
and also a ZM-CS5B: http://www.zalman.com/eng/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=365

Zalman's site lists that they work with the LGA 1155, so I don't know which one to choose or if it matters. What's really interesting, a couple of third party sites claim that this CPU cooler is only compatible with LGA 775 and 1156, but I'm guessing that the information was written prior to the release of second gen i3/5/7.

My mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138320

Also, I found the flash video for installation of the Zalman: http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/intelcooling/cnps9500-at
It looks like the first bracket goes underneath the mobo and the second seated on top of the CPU socket. Am I correct?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
Just purchased an ASUS P8Z68-v pro/Gen 3 MoBo with an i7 2600K. I came across the same dilemma regarding reusing my Zalman 9500. To be safe I bought both sets of clips (what's another 2-3$ on the total order? 😉). I'm waiting for them to arrive to try them out.
