I would like to know if anyone has fit this northbridge heatsink into a MSI p965 platinum motherboard. According to reviews I've seen, it seems a cheap ($10) and incredibly efficient heatsink at keeping the Northbridge cool.
BACKGROUND-
I am overhauling my computer on a modest budget of ~$800. I am reusing my monitor, mouse, keyboard, case, 500W psu, case fans (2 120's, 2 80's), x-fi extreme music card, NEC DVD-RW 16X DL IDE writer, copy of win xp pro, and a hand me down arctic freezer 7 pro cpu cooler.
I want to overclock fairly substantially (3.5ghz- even more would be nice 😀 ):
E6600 C2D CPU
MSI p965 Platinum mobo
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB DDR-800 4-4-4-12-1t 2.1v
Seagate Barracuda, 7200rpm sataII, 16mb cache,
nvidia 7900gs
Will I even need an aftermarket northbridge heatsink? Most northbridge active cooling heatsink come will awful fans that die long before I want my new build to! I like that the Zalman unit is passive, but still does a respectable job that has seemed to test much better than stock heatsinks.
What right now is my greatest weakness to achieving the overclock I am looking at? Thanks in advance!
