So for some reason my game very spontaneously freezes to the point where i cant exit out the window or close the application snd i have to switch the pc off from the switch and restart it

I updated my bios hoping for a miracle lol but i just hopped onto GTA 5 and although it froze the audio for the cut scene was still coming through which wasnt the case before as it would just freeze eveerything so i guess thats a positive?

My pc specs are

B450 gigabyte aorus MB

CV550 PSU corsair

1080amp zotac GPU

Ryzen 5 2600

16gb RAM

PSU definitely the most likely. That one shouldn't be paired with that GPU in the first place. While the 1080 is an old GPU at this point, it was still a high-powered old GPU, not suitable for a basic, entry-level PSU.

So do you suggest I get a better 80 plus rating PSU or get a higher wattage PSU? Or maybe both?

Neither - or rather:
-the 80 plus ratings aren't really a testament to quality, because vendors can fib the numbers a bit, or outright lie. Although there is some 'you get what you pay for' involved here.
-wattage also doesn't say anything about a unit's quality. It's just a number. A crap 1000w unit is still crap.

Reviews are what you need to look towards, or something like the following: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/
Some of the listings there are made based on already existing reviews.
Try to pick from the A Tier if possible - no need for a 1000w unit either; GTX 1080 isn't THAT hungry, so another 550w of higher quality than the last unit would work, but it wouldn't hurt to get a 650~750w if you were looking to acquire one of the more recent gpus soon.
