Planning to build another computer, can't wrap my head around going with Intel or AMD. All online posts suggest AMD, but looking at the market i see that select Intel cpus have fallen in price drastically, while also producing better performance. Mostly going to use this computer for gaming at 1080 144hz, no overclocking or anything of that sorts. Only thing I desire is to have a RTX 2070 incorporated into the build, also, I have already purchased a 1tb nvme ssd and 32gb of ram, so the build doesn't need to have that included.

budget is $1100 CAD without taxes included.
Thank you!

I really don't like Intel anymore. Right now, you could certainly get slightly more bang for your buck. Comparing the i5-10400F to the R5 3600, you would save about 40 bucks, with a slightly(can honestly ignore) better performance. But, you'd need to buy a new CPU cooler for the intel chip. AMDs stock cooler is more than adequate(Should be quiet I heard), as long as you don't overclock. Furthermore, for upgrading, I'd bet AMD will win in the future. Not only are they winning in price to performance(In general, they're Ryzen 4000s are due to be released soon), they include better stock coolers and their chipsets are well, better. Intel has been withholding certain features, just to artificially increase the price of their higher...

Intel has been withholding certain features, just to artificially increase the price of their higher end Z490 motherboards. That's just disgusting and I'd like to stay as far away as possible(Although on your budget, a Z490 would make the most sense). If your willing to wait, just get a Ryzen 4000 CPU when their prices lower. It just makes the most sense to me. Maybe go for a higher end B550 mobo instead of an X570. I don't like X570s, since they have onboard fans and if that breaks, it would be very pricey to replace(Well assuming you use it long enough for it to break). Anyways, just your choice. Would recommend the i5-10400F, but maybe go for an i7 or an OC i5, but it shouldn't be bottlenecking an RTX 2070 Super(Don't bet on it).

I appreciate your response. I was thinking the same thing. I feel like its a odd time to buy a computer at this point, prices seem to be all over the place. But I've honestly always sided with Intel a lot more. I feel like their better performance is overall always better then AMD. But to be completely honest, I do see why people go for AMD, and it does look like the best option, their coolers are better as well as cheaper and more feature packed motherboards. I was looking at the 10400F but i feel like the motherboards for AMD are just overall better as well as more bang-for-buck. Do you have any AMD cpus and motherboards you recommend? I feel like basing my build off those two products will help me get a nice, reliable computer that i wont need to upgrade for a while. I've been looking at the 2600 as a comparison to the 10400f, but I've heard a lot of people recommend the 3600, and I quite cant justify the price difference, what would you recommend? I've never actually built an AMD system before haha.

Thank you.

Well I haven't built anything(yet), would totally go for a 3600 or a 3600X/XT. They are all you need for gaming, won't be doing much(if any) bottlenecking on a 2070 Super. Would recommend waiting for Ryzen 4000, but would recommend pairing the Ryzen 3600 with a MSI B450 Tomahawk(but B550 is realistically the better choice, since those will be compatible with Ryzen 4000s, but for the sake of comparison I'll say that). The ASRock B450M Pro4 is also an amazing(but much cheaper) choice. The ASRock B450M Pro4 is really just a budget mobo, wouldn't pair it with a 2070 Super, it's far more realistic for a 1660 Super or an RX 580. Then again, that's just balancing the budget. So just take a look at the MSI B450 Tomahawk. That's the most common choice for Ryzen 3000s. Bar none.

Sounds like a great choice. I'm planning to get a 3 series with the b550 motherboard, not going for the super just the regular 2070, hopefully no limitations occur :).

I would imagine a 3600 would handle a 2070 non S. Do independent research on it, since it is your money and I haven't paired those two(or anything comparable) in a build of my own. Wouldn't take my work(or anyone elses) as 100% reliable.

Happy building!
