So I just got a PNY SSD that's 120GB to use as my new boot drive. I plugged it in and first it's showing it as 217 GB available of 218, and then when I went to copy everything from my old drive onto it (70+ GB) it says it's copying 9,997 items (5.49 GB). Am I doing something wrong or is my computer messed up or factory error and I got a larger drive?

You can't use the simple copy/paste method to copy the entire contents of a boot drive/partition to another drive.

You need to use disk-imaging or cloning software (often both combined in a single package).

I use Active@ Disk Image as it's a doddle to use, totally reliable and I've been using it for disk-imaging for the past 10 years:

There are free alternatives but I've never used any of them.
