My 37" TV was "supposedly" HD ready which was brought at about 1-2 years but after I upgraded my rig and plugged it up, I found out it's native resolution was 1366x768 not 1080.......

Thus i have a simple question.

Is it better to set resolution at 1080 then let the tv do the down-scaling or run games at the native resolution?

I have no idea but, doesn't down-scaling mean same detail over a smaller area thus more detailed?

Thanks for your time

not always.
it all depends on how good your tv is in downscaling.a good downscaling engine in your tv means you retain most of the picture quality.
for playing games though it is better to use the native resolution of the tv and use the low resolutions to get better fps and higher quality settings with various eye candy turned on.

Even if you set resolution for 1080p your TV would not show it, as it is outside of its maximum resolution. Best stick with native

What would be the point in that? Any downscaling would just degrade the picture that could come clean in that resolution in the first place. Use native.

You got bit by what a lot of my friends got bit by when getting HD tv's. There are 3 levels of HD. 720p(Lowest level of HD), 1080i(set at the resolution of 1080 but visual quality of 720p), and 1080p.

Your TV is 720p which is HD. I wouldn't run anything beyond that. Some Tv's won't downscale from 1080. It would be wiser to play at the native resolution.

I don't know about TV, but downsize picture quality is much better than lower native resolution... (IMO) :bounce:

the bad is, it will make the hw works harder and the onscreen text / substitles ("Hard sub") will be much smaller.........

edit: actually, the tv spec is right, "HD" (branding) is 720p. 1080p is "Full HD"

Um HD Ready is the promotional moniker for 720p, which is the same res as your TV. TVs at 1080p are promoted as "Full HD."
