So the other day my psu killed both of my hard drives. I don't hear them turning on anymore. And they aren't being detected my bios. I also tried a hard drive dock to usb and searched for it with a data recovery program and it doesn't show up. I have about 5TB of data on both those drives combined. Is there anyway to recover the data on the drives without spending a fortune on a data recovery service? (Especially bc of covid) Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

hopefully you have already replaced the PSU with a higher quality trustworthy model so as to not risk the rest of your components.

once your PC is safe again with a trustworthy PSU model;
you can just reconnect the drives via their SATA connection and try other recovery softwares to see if a different application may be able to recognize the drives.
some of these data recovery applications may have trouble discovering drives that are connected via USB.

if the drives' circuits are blown there is nothing you personally can do to recover the platter and any data that still may be there.

you would have to find a local PC shop with the proper tools or possibly a larger chain store that offers these types of services.
but, that depends on where you live.
you would need to search and ask around to find somewhere\someone who can guarantee recovery or no fee.
some places will charge a flat rate before hand and then do absolutely nothing and just claim they tried.

yes I have replaced my power supply with a new one. (Corsair RM750X) my other psu was almost 6yrs old. I will try connecting the drives with the sata instead of usb. I've tried 2 softwares already and both don't recognize the drives. I've been checking data recovery places but they are charging ridiculous prices for recovery. I am in Toronto, Ontario if anyone knows of any good data recovery places. Thanks

maybe some circuits inside the drive have been fried maybe try replace the drive's PCB board (circuit) and if that doesn't work , well time for a new drive
