2 problems with a KT4 Ultra (MS-6590)

First issue is more not important but is bugging me. I got this board
about a year ago with a Athlon XP 1800+ processor. On boot the
processor speed was listed as 1250 Mhz. Just upgraded to an Athlon XP
2500+ (barton) processor. After installing it the processor speed is
listed a 1100 Mhz. After running fuzzy logic it is now listed as 1135
Mhz.

Any one now why this is not listed as 2.5 Ghz? I've tried various BIOS
tweaks for FSB speed and CPU multiplier but that only results in the
system not booting.

Which led to the second problem. At some stage I loaded High
Performance settings in BIOS. This disabled the on-board Broadcom
NetXtreme ethernet transceiver. Easily fixed but on boot Windows XP
now says that the adapter won't start, so I'm using a spare 10-BaseT
adapter. It lists a 'code(10)' as the reason. After a good rummage
around Google/Broadcom/Microsoft I can't find anything to explain this
error. Any ideas?

TIA.

have you made sure that the bios fsb setting is at 166 ?

Eventually found the technical specs. Yep, the 2500+ runs at 1.8 Ghz
or so. Also found the details on the MSI website for setting the BIOS
right. You have to set the CPU frequency at about half the FSB speed
before it finds the right CPU settings. As mentioned. Though the CPU
multiplier seems 'stuck' at x11 so a bit more fiddling is necessary.

Only problem is that now the thing is overheating even with a thumping
big CPU heat sink and fan. Time to buy a bigger case and more fans I
suspect.

<snips>

For the record. Seems the onboard Ethernet is not PnP. Had to
reinstall the drivers as it seems the IRQ's of my peripherals have
changed.

if its a quite new cpu, no amount of fiddling will alter the multiplier as
theyre all locked now.

did you set the fsb to 166 ? thats what it needs to be at
