Ok this is my very first build aside from gpu and ram upgrades to previous computers. The following includes everything but monitor keyboard and mouse. If I forget anything please let me know. I'm not sure about my mobo or ram. If you have any better suggestions please share.

I'm also wondering if that blue ray drive is overkill and are there any parts I'm taking for granted ie screws or bays to mount my drives in? My total comes to 1637 with rebate on ram. Prices are next to item. Thanks for your help!
 
Cases usually come with enough mounting screws for your drives and stuff. And yeah, I wouldn't get a Blu-Ray drive for at least a year or two, but at least you've picked a good brand.

Your power supply is overkill. Consider a 650W or even a 550W one.

Just to be clear, you're planning on getting two GTX 285s? Unless you're powering a 30" monitor, this setup is also overkill in most cases.

Lastly, do you really need 6GB of RAM? Remember 32-bit OSes only support a max of 3.25.
 
The 1000W PSU is not over kill if he has future plans that will utilize it, and if he has a display with 1920x1980 and above, two 285's aren't over kill either.

If you do not already have one or more, I would suggest you get a few 4gn or 8gn USB Flash Drives. They do come in handy, specially when updating Bios' or moving programs that you had from old computer to new one.

Costs come to $1380.93, minus OS, Optical Drive, aftermarket cpu hsf cooler, extension cable and thermal compound or 2nd graphic card. Also remember that by the time you order the parts for your build, prices will change and there will be some new Graphic cards out at end of July.

+1! but if dust is an issue i would get the Antec 1200 over the HAF 923 if sut is an issue because the HAF 932 doesn't contain dust filters unlike the Antec 1200,anyway dust filters makes the air flow less so i would just getting the HAF 932 and cleaning dust once a week,also i would get the western digital 1tb because it is more stable than the seagate.i would change the Tuniq for the ocz freeze slightly better and easier to apply,also the scythe mugen is slightly better than the Xigmatek and cheaper,the psu will be more than ok for 2 gtx 285 in sli.

@TonCharr28 for 1920x1200 one gtx 285 won't handle all the games with high FPS so 2 won't be an overkill
 
Thanks so much for the reccomendations. Got a few questions though. I found a combo deal for the mobo cpu and corsair dominator ddr3 memory. Is it worth the price tag. Also, I plan on oc'ing sometime in the future and I learn more. I'm having trouble understanding what's speed to get. From what I have read the cpu will only run it at 1066 mhz. There's a lot I don't know about computers so bear with me. Is my motherboard sufficient? I chose my gpu and psu because I might end up doing some autocad on this computer when the time comes as well as trying to run game serves, playing games, watching videos. Thanks so much!
 
don't forget to get a 64bit OS.

and dual 4850's will max most games and come close to the GTX 285's performance for only $200 so they might be worth looking into. also dual card setups look better than single card setups.
 
Bump. Looking for feedback on dominator ram and also what speed I should get if I oc in the future. Does the mobo look good. How current will this tech be? If I get my system in august should I wait for tech then? Or will everything be pretty relevent assuming i7 will be around for some time.
 
I've been doin some thinking. I don't do too many graphics instensive programs besides games. Ill be doing cad a few years down the road. Is amd better for straight up gaming, and would it save enough to downgrade to the deneb 955 ph2. Thanks a bunch!
 
CAD prefers i7 so you will lose a lot of performance there by dropping down to the 955.

also when are you thinking of buying this PC? because the DX11 cards from ATi come out in September and will equal the 4870 X2 in performance for $250 or there abouts.
 
Honestly this computer is coming a little out of pocket and mostly left over student loans. I got a 1500 scholarship so that should help. This will be my first year.
 

I currently am running Corsair Dominators 1600 @ said speed with my P6T Deluxe core i7 and they are asy to clock to said speed
