So I'm currently looking into the used market in order to upgrade my 1660 super, as I got a 240hz monitor for pretty cheap and the 1660s can't really push that many frames in most games at 1080p.

The 2 best options I've found are:
An MSI 2070 8Gb for about $180 US
An Asus 3060 12gb Single fan for $150 US

What I was wondering was: Is the single fan enough of an issue to spend the extra $30 on the 2070? My understanding was that they're pretty much tied in raw performance, so I'm basically weighing the extra VRAM, the price, and the cooling capability.

Space is not an issue, I got a phanteks P400A and my temps currently don't go above 65°C at full load, especially since I'm in a very very cold environment.

I'd appreciate if anyone who has more experience with these cards could help me make an informed choice here.

Thanks in advance.

I would probably take the 3060. Uses less power. You can always invest a little on an aftermarket cooling solution, though probably not for $30.

Put in a bid on this one, see what happens: $177 for a huge triple fan 3060.

I'll probably go for the 3060 then, the one you sent looks good, but the one I was talking about is 20 minutes away from me and paid in cash lol, which makes it a lot easier to get my hands on it. Thanks for the quick response man.

Hmm, if I were a betting man I would say the ASUS Dual RTX 3060 coolers will fit right on. Pretty basic too, as long as the hole pattern is the same size and the distance from the PCIe bracket to the GPU is the same or larger, probably quite a few that might fit.

IDK how daring you want to be in an attempt to stretch that dollar with a comparative risk....

1080 ti are stronger than the 3060 for sheer grunt work, if you don't care about the resolution modifiers and Ray Tracing that likely isn't worth messing with on the xx60 level. Of course, WORLD of difference in power and heat, but worth consideration for a card +/- 25% stronger...They seem to be selling as low as ~$110 for blower variants and under 2 bills for nice versions.

Lot of risk, but actually the used 3060 with some memory in it can be as well.

Well I've been looking at all the options around me and haven't found many 1080 TIs so far, mostly 2060 supers, 1660 TIs, 2070s and 3060s, but I'll consider it if I see one. I was kinda set on the 3060 but the guy couldn't provide a video of the card working, didn't want to meet at his house, but "promises" the card works and that he'll give me my money back if it doesn't lmao. Certainly a no-go for me unfortunately.

Going back to the 1080ti, you think a 650w PSU will handle it fine? I'm not 100% sure what power connectors a 1080ti takes, or what my PSU provides.

Recommended to have 600W of GOOD power supply. If yours is a decent model it should do fine. I am not positive if all 1080ti are the same connector wise but would be counting on dual 8 pin. I would consider verifying that based on finding one you like and its model number.

and yeah, that "promise" means all of nothing from someone online and particularly if not local. With that said, if you have such it may be worthwhile to look on CL or Marketplace if you feel like dealing with the foolishness on a local pickup.

Thought i'd post an update:

Apparently there was a misunderstanding, it wasn't a public meeting, the guy owned the place we were meeting. After i said i wasn't very comfortable buying the card untested, he agreed to put it back into his build and run some games on it, which it did fine. So all in all, 3060 is working fine in my dekstop, benchmark seems to be going well, card stays below 55°C which is definitely good enough for me. Thank you all for the help.
