I am currently looking to upgrade/ sidegrade. My 7820x is dying on me. So I'm stuck between the 3700x and the 3800x. Money is not an issue between the two. (I know its about a $50 between the two but I don't care) I am just looking for the most performance out of the box with PBO. I would assume that the 3800x is binned and will possibly use less voltage and draw less power. I will be paring it with 3000mhz or 3200mhz RAM. Thanks!

Solution
Nothing to be done about it then... back to the 2 cpus in question:
Skip the 3800X unless it's on sale. It's in the same boat as the 3600X - costs too much for what it offers.
thing is , they both almost identical on ~100ish range of fps, identical even in some cases, decide for yourself -

, if i would be you, i would go for the 3700x since 50usd is just not worth the benefit which you will get in Some things, while Some others will get even.. +0.0 fps.. , for 20 or 30 usd i could consider it :/ (the less power thing on PBO , yeah if you looking to pay it off that way then it sure will, after 9 years or so..) < that is if 100% usage 8hours per day which you obviously will not do, basically you most likely will never will pay it off 🙁 even if your energy bill is even something stupid like 48 cents instead of generic 12

My 7820x ik s from silicon lottery. 4.7ghz @1.25v. Its unstable at that voltage. I need 1.3v for a sable 4.7 now and its generating a lot if heat...
Oh dear... sounds like the chip has degraded rather quickly.
What were you cooling it with, and what was the motherboard?

As I mentioned before, I didn't buy directly from them, but had them delid and bin it for me, but my current cooler isn't capable of handling it at the level they confirmed for me:
7820X4.60GHz4.30GHz4.10GHz1.237V

So I did what I could and got this instead:
7820X4.50GHz4.20GHz4.00GHz1.18V

My other question is what is temp diffrence between the two?
Between 3700X and 3800X? A few degrees perhaps? But the power and thermals are significant enough that the latter doesn't perform even 1% faster in most cases over the former.

Its been hammered hard over a few years. I've run a few VM's on it for school, gaming, a few game servers, Folding at Home (Long before the COVID-19 stuff) and lots of multitasking on it. I've kept it at the OC because I kind of needed it. I have a custom loop right now. 2x360mm rads with an EK WB and a 2080 ti with EVGA hydro copper block.
