Ryan closed videl's thread so i decided to re-open 😉

Much appreciated :)

Thanks OvrClkr for running that test.

There wasn't any programs running in the background. Also don't have any AV installed.

Looked all settings over well and set what I could to application controlled, nothing forced on. Only setting that might make diff was texture filtering, was set to quality, changing to performance might make difference.. Gonna take advice and reinstall drivers and hope for some luck.

Make sure you have ALL your settings changed to "Performance" in the NV control panel. Also make sure that v-sync is disabled.

Anisotropic Filtering : OFF

Antialising - Mode : OFF

Antialising Transparency : Multisampling

I would use the 197.13 beta driver as it helped my performance over the 196.21 😉

Well with those setting adjustments and new driver I gained small 200 on score, for 13000.

New to overclocking but my card was already overclocked by a decent amount from most gtx260's. Was playing with MSI Afterburner and raised core, shader and memory clock a stable amount. Ran 3dmark06 test again with dramatic decrease in score. Can anyone tell me whats going on here? Maybe the reason im getting low performance is the stock overclocking is unstable or something?

13k sounds about right (with a few more adjustments you will get around 14k 😉 ), also remember that your x3 does not have any L3 cache =)

anyways if you raise your HT link and FSB you will get a much better score..

are you using the stock CPU cooler?

@ OvrClkr

I am on stock cpu cooler at moment. Looking to buy decent cooler, any suggestions?

Looking to overclock a little as suggested, should i wait to do that until I have nice cooler?

You should be able to get at least 3.4Ghz with the stock cooler. As long as your CPU stay below 60 ( I recommend 55c ) you should be fine.

I highly recommend getting an aftermarket cooler regardless because most users end up overclocking their CPU anyways. If you do decide on upgrading your cooler I would suggest :

Hyper 212+

or

Scythe KATANA3

both are superb coolers that wont break the bank =)

Okay basically. Maybe 21K is alittle high for that system. Id say around 16K is your MINIMAL score. at least. Maybe your ram and or CPU is holding something back. Try Running just Drivers And 3Dmark 06. Even with my 4850 i managed 14k+

Here is my 3DMark06 score, it's slightly lower than usual because I am running my i7 920 at 4.2 instead of 4.4. I usually hit 27k and in 3DMark Vantage I get over 22k. I have a defective 5870 that only ever runs at x8 PCI express mode instead of x16 lol.

I believe the 5870 does not max out the bandwidth of an x8 lane anyway so it should make no difference, it still annoys me that I have a card that is not running at the spec it's supposed to though. I have looked in CCC, GPUZ, CPUZ and others and it still tells me the card supports x16 but is running at x8. I got that score running at 1015/1300 clocks and I am happy with it. I just worry that if I buy a 5970 for trifire it's gonna cause issues?

I can't see how every system info software I use could all glitch. I forget all that have reported the problem but here are a few I just tried. Sorry to hijack the thread with this...just wanna show you.

no worries, you are not hijacking anything =)

That is weird though, have you tried running that GPU on a different PC just to see if there is any difference?

No not yet, will have to take it to my brothers at the weekend and give it a try. I did try an 8800GT in this mobo though and it was reported to be working at x16. It is a really strange problem indeed. In all my time with working on computers I have never had to deal with this before. I just hope it wont effect my planned crossfire in the near future.
