Ryan closed videl's thread so i decided to re-open 😉

Much appreciated :)

hehehehe, gotta agree, thats not 15k... just a "tad under", or "right at", but not 15 k... :non: BTW I'm on Win 7 64 with my setup so I guess I could get better scores in 06 by going to XP 32. Just as a sidenote if you really want to crack 15K... try different drivers.... I'm running 8.650 from Catalyst release 9-9 for vista.... seems to be worth some points in 3dmark06 😀

might be screwed on doing any volt mods on my XFX card then.... here is a screen shot from RBE of the original bios showing available volt settings and you can see they are all set at the max of 1.258.

Have not started looking into using Riva Tune or any others but am open to suggestions. GBU won't go more than 670/675 without gettting very unstable - driver will hang even when just web browsing. Having seen what others are getting for oc on their vc's I'd like to believe more is available with the proper mods...

Do you still have a copy of 32bit Vista or XP laying around ?? Installing a new partition and booting into one of them would probably bump you over the 15K mark !!

Can your E8400 do 3.8Ghz flat? That will get you over the hump 😉

^Wow some nice scores there...
got over 17 k in 06...
I'm happy! it's hard to get those scores with my graphics card (Sapphire 4850) overclocked like crazy...not to mention volt modded...lol

check it out...

DAMN!, sweet scores! I am going to have to start thinking about volt modding my vid card. I am stuck now at 670/1198,1200 on my gpu so without upping some voltage not sure if I'll get my scores much better.

This is my best ever and had everything about maxed with my set-up. Apparantly my combo doesn't have the oc room as you, OvrClkr, and others. I seem to be seeing more temp, and having to use higher voltages so I'm wondering about my cooler, and or TIM...CPU oc wouldn't pass prime95 but it was stable enuf to do anything I wanted other than that...

Still think it is pretty good comparatively to other similar setups, so I'm not to disappointed.

@bensonj7
I think that your problem might be the fact that you have an XFX...I normally respect this brand but
I have had some problems with the 4850 from XFX...doesn't overclock that high...I had one that was stock overclocked to 650Mhz gpu and 1050 ram...it wasn't even stable, I had to underclock it to 625 993 and then it would pass the tests...I know it's just the card but you say you're stuck at 670/1198,1200...
I could max my sapphire out in ccc to 700/1200...
with a volt mod I can get 850/1225...but it has artifacts in some games so I lower the ram to 1160 and there is no more artifacts...works great...I'm happy...
You should try finding a volt mod for your xfx...try running 3dmark06 on xp and try different drivers...you could easily get a bit over 16k 😉

Windows xp hm? Maybe. im on windows 7. so.. there shouldnt be a problem. I have done a volt mod before. but i dont like having clocks like that with out having a backup GPU.

btw i have a Sapphire 4850 😀

Lets see, for the computer in my sig:

3DMark06: (default) 17618
Vantage: P14351

Pretty lazy OC, none on the CPU and just the max CCC will let me do. Oddly though when I did that it raised my 2D clocks up to 500/750, so now it runs a little hotter all the time.

I would figure something like your rig would go a little higher...

Yep, before the Graphics OC I was at (for Vantage):

(Performance) P13527
GPU 13779
CPU 12825

And with the Graphics OC I went up to 14958 GPU score, but CPU was unchanged. I think in 06 I was around 15k, and now am 17k+. In all of my games right now a stock i5 750 is plenty (and although the i5 certainly isn't difficult to OC, it would take more effort than pushing the sliders over and pressing test) so I'll do that later when I really need it.

Makes sense.

Well, I am back on Windows XP. Kinda nice seeing the old Beast. Fast too. Anyway. I benched With 3Dmark 06 and got 13254 * stock* Going to bump my cpu back to 3.77 and overclock my Graphics card again, And hopefully Get 15K >D
