I am almost done with the AM3 Overclocking Guide, hopefully I will roll it out the first or second week of March at the latest. Im aiming for the end of Feb but I have 2 projects to finish before I can finalize the guide.

I will be here helping out during the whole weekend so don't hesitate to ask anything [:jaydeejohn:5]

I understand about other projects, I have a sisters desktop, and a buds laptop they want "cleaned up and back running up to snuff" to do also this weekend so might not get as much oc testing in. I'm also working on a spreadsheet to help me analyze results of changes during OC as it results to performance, temps and reliability but my Excel skills are real rusty

Keep your eye out for a post from... damn, forgot his name, well anyway, guy is trying to unlock his X2 and he can get it up and running using 32 bit windows, but can't with 64 bit. I told him to start a thread and some of you pros might be able to help him out.

damn, this is as bad as trying to get 1400 horsepower from 351 cubic inches of Chevy engine...only needed a 10-71 blower @ 42 lbs of boost to do that, and some rods, pistons, crank, cam, heads, etc....

Gotcha, yea I know a bit of cars too, I have 2004 mazda 6 turbo/intercooled by HKS , its a pain in the arse to maintain... gonna get rid of it before summer arrives

Right so i download vantage and created a new hotmail address so that I can get another free trial, i got my free trial code, entered it, overclocked my 5850 ready for the benchmark run, and I get "Minimum required resolution is not supported"

Even though my Toshiba REGZA 32" TV/Monitor does 1920 x 1080 res. and of course is capable of the required 1280 x 1024. Anyone else have this problem?, Anyone know a fix?

Strange thing is I've ran the vantage benchmark before, with the same hardware, Maybe its a driver issue.

I am really looking forward to benching my 965 when it comes in. Funny story: my 955 came in last tue, I installed it, and they sent me a C2 version, even though the one I ordered had the serial of the C3 version. I called them, sent it back for full refund, and upgraded to a 965 for the hell of it. The prices really dropped here this week, as 965 c3 is now going for $188 CAD, so the upgrade was only a couple bucks.

I was originally getting a 965, changed to 940 B.E for budget reasons, 965 seems like a great processor.

My original choice was the 940, but my wife and I did our taxes a few weeks back, so had a bit more to play with. Might even splurge on a 5870 (had a budget for a 5850 already from selling my 4870x2) but am patient enough to see the fermi cards first, and whatever ATI price drops might accompany their release.

I've never owned a top tier processor before, so totally having a geek-citement overload, hah.

Unless the Fermi does have all the problems that rumors are floating around about and tanks causing the 5870 prices to actually go up !! 😱

That was a scenario I was pleasently content with being in denial of. Yes I ended that sentence with a preposition. No I don't care. See how grumpy your truthiness has made me. here's hoping the worst case scenario won't be all murphied into my reality. If so, I guess I would be waiting another month or two on top of all that.

Sorry about that !! - One thing you could do if you think that might happen is the day before it finally launches - place an order with Newegg and select pre-paid check as the payment type - they give you about 14 days to mail the check to them at the price the order was placed at which would give you a few days to see how things work on release - If the price increases mail the check - if the prices drop cancel the order and place a new one at the lower price !!

though i cant wait to see what kind of performance there trying to suck out of there cards Knowing that They didnt have a chance when ATI brought out there new cards. Only Logical reason why they never put them out. Maybe they Were horrible and thats why they are 400 Series instead of 300 series.

Nvidia screwed up on the Fermi...they will have to do something...it's not like it's the end of the company...they will iether do a relayout or the'll make something new...and the prices on the ATI cards should stay the same or even drop eventually...

Yeah, I'm more seeing it as a better performing 2900XT. Big, hot, and expensive, but at least an equal to the ATI cards and in some areas better. Certainly not bad, but after 6 months of anticipation, it may be a letdown. Or the best card ever, but until NVidia removes its veil of secrecy (not a good sign it is there in the first place) we won't know.

My GPU was effected by the upgrade though, having to turn down my clocks for stability to 775/1000. Still a nice bump from my best run with the x3 at the same GPU clocks, which was around 15.1k.

What you need is a cooler and some MX-2, forget about AS5. IMO AS5 is overrated and overpriced...

Well, if you already have AS-5 laying around, you might as well use it. Can't beat free for price vs performance, even though there are better ones out there. I used my 1 or 2 year old AS-5 remnants and I couldn't wish for lower temps.

Well yea, what I mean is that next time you are on the lookout for TIM make sure you get something that does not require any curing time 😉 , AS5 takes forever to cure and you get very little for what you pay 😉

Since I switched to MX-2 and Gelid Extreme I am gettin superior temps vs. whatever I have used in the past.
