That's a complete waste of money, :pt1cable:

The OP apparently doesn't have money to waste...he's got money to spend! I think that case will go great with his 1000w+ PSU...

I alrdy have a 37" Sony Bravia

Why am I dimwit? Because I wan the highest performance components that money can buy? All major Gaming Pc companies have all these same components that I want. I am not buying from them because it would cost $1000 more for the same exact pc except they built it.

Soem major companies are:

Alienware
Dell XPS
HP Blackbrird
Voodoo
Digital Storm
Velocity Micro

I've configured the same exact pc from all these pc manufacturers and they were all $5000+

Okay suggestion:
Instead of building a computer, why not just buy one?
http://www.overdrivepc.com/

Overdrive pc are very solid and overclocked pcs that costs a ton. They have excellent services such as customizing a pc using a part they don't offer. The wiring and everything is perfectly routed and what's more the pc is quiet. You should check them out.

First of all, stop picking on the guy for spending so much money, sounds like you guys are pretty damn jealous. Also, keep in mind if he's spending 4 grand on a PC, you can stop telling him he should be spending it on other things, because common sense says if he's spending that much on a PC of all things, he probably already has a nice car etc etc. I'm going to be spending about that much on a PC in the next few months but I'm sure not gonna come here asking for advice now.

Anyway, to the OP, don't buy a 1000w+ PSU, there is absolutely 100% NO benefit in doing that, it's just a waste. Most of these configs you listed could be run just fine on a 550w PSU, go for a 750W at most, don't buy into the whole giant PSU hype. The 550W I have can power a pair of quad cores, 8 sticks of RAM, a pair of 8800gt's, and 2 hard drives without breaking a sweat.

Now in your position, I would go for a Q6600, and a nice overclocking board, and some water cooling. If you must have a 45nm CPU, I'd wait till early next year when the rest of the line comes out, paying $1,300+ for a CPU is ridiculous, especially for a gaming PC, where the CPU isn't even the bottleneck.

For RAM, don't waste money on DDR 3, there is no benefit to that, unless you're doing extreme OCing, like LN2, which I doubt you will be. DDR 1066 RAM will get you to 2132FSB, I doubt you'll be getting anywhere near that.

I would put a lot of that money towards a nice big monitor and a big comfy chair if you don't already have one. Which are you going to notice more, a CPU that's a few % faster, or a big ass monitor?

OP's info says he's 16. Everything he has, his Daddy has given him. Let him waste his parent's money. I tried helping out and my 'help' was dumped on, so that's my new position. If a person wants to waste their money, go for it. People have posted plenty of helpful ideas here which would save well over $1000, if the OP doesn't need anything else with that extra $1000, buy some stock, keep it in savings, donate it to charity, take a vacation. The OP wants the best tech money can buy, how upset will he be in 6 weeks when many of his 'best components' are no longer the best and he wasted $1200 for a CPU that one in 6 weeks will compare to for less than 1/3 the price?

Or waste money on an X38 mobo that is already being made oboslete by the X48 chipset? Or $500 on DDR2 memory? Or $1000 on DDR3 memory that nobody needs because the highest FSB you need they make DDR2 memory that handles it easily.

And yes, the $400 PSU that you could power your house on. My guess is the poster is either a spoiled brat that wants everyone to know that, or just plain doesn't have the money and is fantasizing that he does and how he would spend it. Either way its hard to earn any respect from the people you come to looking for help that way.

Ah, but you are assuming all those high end "new" components will even boot up on the first try. You are also assuming that putting together an "all star" team will win a gold medal! Hence the expensive lesson.

I think you people need to put things into perspective here. To most of you, a $4,000 system is a complete waste, but to joe sixpack who wants a $300 dell, to him a $1,000 system is completely ridiculous, yet most people here would have no problem spending that much.

Also, not everyone gets a high-end PC because they even need it, to some of us, PC's are a hobby, the same way some 16 year old punk tricks out his civic, does he need the extra power or for that matter the flashy paint and rims? Probably not, but if it brings him enjoyment, let him live his life. He's 16, if he's not blowing his money on this, he'll be spending it carelessly somewhere else. I put a lot more money than that into computers when I was 16.

To the OP

You realize that today's bleeding edge wunderputer is tomorrow's garage sale fodder?

If you cut your budget in half and spent that money today you would have a wonderful computer today. Then in 1 year you could take a portion of your remaining budget and upgrade the video card. In two years you could take the remain $ and upgrade the entire computer.

Overall, in my suggested system, you would have a wonderful computer for 2-3 years.

In your methodology you have a Fantastic computer for 6 months and a wonderful computer for 1 year.

After reading the posts and your replies I think you should just go to one of these sites and just spend your 4,000
They build good gaming rigs for almost double the price then normal,so you can spend all your money and get good stuff.

@OP (original poster, if it's not already been answered): Clearly you're a self-important person who will not listen to people that are FAR more experienced than you (randomizer, rodney, monster, chookman, runsw95). Please buy whatever you want because you have more money than good sense or class.

The very definition of a teenager. The good news is, the older he gets, the smarter his elders become. :)

I can see a psu being high wattage for future proofing

I highly recommend wait just a little time until the cheaper and much faster 45nm Processors come out

Asus is usually better than gigabyte in mobo's so I don't see what your problem is there

For hard drive if you want 10k rpm then you only really have 2 choices along with the choice of size so....

For video cards why not go with another brand? From my personal experience in building pc's and repairing them (opening my own business with a friend) I say EVGA is hands down the best GPU manufacturer and I do not like BFG

Also for your monitor I know you say you are getting that monitor but why get a 22' monitor when you can go 24' and have a better panel. From what I have learned and if I remember right all 22' monitors made right now have 16bit tft panels which I much rather have an 18 bit 24' monitor. Especially if I have a "budget" of 4k I'd go for a better monitor

I bought an XFX for my current pc to save some money and I do not like it, yet I do like it more than BFG. I wish I would have gone with EVGA, luckily I am getting a new gpu once I care to get Vista and DX10
