I'll buy a 5000x server mobo and a couple of quad core xeons@2,66 (or 3,00GHZ)

4 or 8 gigs of ram

Then one evga 8800 gtx

And you have a SUPER powerful machine

For 4K I could build 3 very good systems. And I agree, if your gonna spend $1000+ for a CPU go with the 45nm. Anyway Thats a little crazy, The other option is to visit Alienware or Voodoo, and get one of their crazy systems, then you don't have to worry about screwing anything up. But, yeah 4K for a PC is a bit of a waste.

uhh hmm...in 2 yrs your compy wont play games that well at all....sure 10% increase in ram speed, but that wont matter when its out of date. spend 2K put the other 2k in a 401K...youll be happy you did. In all seriousness though I just spent $2500 on mine, and uhh it sux cause alot of games dont use more than 2 cores...many will only use 1...its a waste of the other cores. The only thing that makes my compy sweat is 3dsmax. In all seriousness dude...spend a fraction of that 4k until games get better handling of more cores, better solid state hard disks come out...etc. thats where the real performance in games will be seen.

Ok, you guys have convinced me that I should go cheaper. Could someone like customize a rig and post it here so I could see how I should change some components. Yes I would like my comp to be future proof for at least 3 years and still run games very smooth.

Someone posted how more powerful components will be coming out in 6 WEEKs, could someone tell me like whats coming out?

Thank You

Thats what i did in my first post but was ignored...

Ummm...I am 16 and I think this kid is an idiot...But you are right, a lot of the guys who I have learned from are 35+ years old.

Also are any motherboard manufacturers creating a BIOS that allow you to have the new 45nm platform? (QX9650)

Could you find out if I'll be able to fit 2 nvidia 8800 GTX and a X-FI on this board:

GIGABYTE GA-N680SLI-DQ6

Also any reccemendations for a good gaming board that could support the new 45nm platform?

This is what is concludes to:

45nm or 56nm

SLI or single

680i vs x38

Also do you guys know when the 780i/ x48 boards come out? And if you could get me the spec's about the board.

much appreciated.

Thank You.

45nm chips are supported (generally with BIOS update) on P35, x38 and upcomming x48 (possible support for P965 and 975) Currently no supported on 680i to my knowledge.

2 x GTX and X-fi should fit on this board X-fi maybe a little cramped for breathing space in bottom PCI slot.

If you are running 22" screen there is no real need for SLI, and to support 45nm you are best with a P35 or x38 (in the case of your "excess" spending get an x38) Asus and Gigabyte are the way to go.

i believe you mean 45nm or "65nm" in which case its up to you, however, 65nm will be supported out of box (no BIOS update required) and is fully supported in 775 sockets including SLI 680i chipsets.

As i said before SLI or single... Single i believe would be best as you are not running at massive resolutions so you odnt really need the power of 2 cards.

680i or x38... if you want SLI 680i is the only option... if you dont want SLI then get the x38, newer chipset more features and supports 45nm chips.

780i and x48 will not be out until next year at earliest... x48 should con-incide with QX9770 (i believe) which is first CPU to support 1600FSB

A coming video card you should definitely buy is the G92-based 8800 GTS (not the existing G80 versions). It will have 128sp, 512MB mem with a 256-bit memory bus. Don't waste money on a [or two] Ultras since you're only running at 16x10. Asking to be absolutely futureproof for two years I think is a little out of the question at any time. Look at my profile, this system was pretty top-notch three years ago [edit: for and Intel system]. And running Crysis on it, yea right, I wouldn't even try because it's killing systems generations ahead of mine.

Thanks for the info, what would you get if you were me? With a 22" monitor?

So... your saying that the X38 chipset with single card and 45nm is the best way to go, with a 22" monitor?

Also what would be the main difference, and which one would work better out of these?

X38, 45nm, Single video card

680i, 65nm, SLI video card

Which will have better performace over all? and which would be better for gaming?
Which would you recemmend?

Intel QX9650
Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 or GA-P35-DQ6
2 x 2GB 1066 or 800 Ram (OCZ, Corsair, Adata, Crucial)
8800GTS (G92) 512MB (December 3rd, should be short supply, but you should be able to order one if you monitor Newegg and are quick about it)

Those should be your core components in my mind.

Let me know if you want any more help selecting stuff. I'm a big advocate of Lian Li cases, so I can't really speak in an unbiased manner about case selection.

$4000 Gaming rig

: drools uncontrollably:

:seizure:

:death:

Wait a little while, get a mobo that can do quadfire and then buy yourself 4*3870's or if you wait long enough 2*3890's then you dont need 4 pci-e lanes.

Honestly more than 1 monitor for gaming is a bit of a waste. lots of monitors is good for work which i doubt will happen on that pc.

Maybe get a later phenom, though i bet intel will have trounched us again by then.

DO NOT BUY AN 8800 GTS. STUPID **** IDEA.... Get 1 or 2 8800gt(s).

If you have the money, which you do, go sli or crossfire.

Bear in mind that crossfire scales a bit better than sli.

If I had that much money I'd probably wait for the Skulltrails mobo or w/e it is called and get like insane crap for my pc. If i remember that is like a dual penryn mobo with Sli hah

What? You jealous cause you can't afford to spend that kind of money???What makes you think someone has a problem just because they want to build the best machine they can???To the original poster. No,you don't need to spend that much to build a very nice gaming machine, but hey,it's your money, and to be honest,if I had 4000 dollars to spend on an extreme gaming machine,I would be the first one to do so.So go ahead and build your $4000.00 gaming rig,and ignore the negativity from some of the other posters.Enjoy your new machine. And I hope it comes together for you the way you want and expect it to.Goodluck.

LG makes a very nice 24" monitor. They have two model numbers for that size, but the monitors differ only in button placement. It lets stores not have to price match. Over at hardforums.com it is considered one of the best non-TN panel monitors for gaming. It can be found for as little as $500 if on sale. You mentioned watching movies; that 24" monitor will fully supports 1080p resolutions. I've been very pleased with mine.

Neox, I believe that there is an issue with your desire to have a computer which is future proof for 3 years. It pretty much cannot be done. Consider the best computer money could buy two years ago. You'd have a decent Athlon dual core chip, but that chip would get stomped on by just about any current Core 2 Duo, let alone quad. The 7900GTX was released in 2006. Even the current 8800GTS slaps it around. If you spend say half your budget now, and upgrade once a year with some of the remaining cash, you'll have better performance for two of your three years.

Phenom is already being beated by Intel according to latest benchmarks

8800GTS (G92) is not a stupid idea as we all "know" the 8800GTS (g80) is current the G92 version should beat a GTX for performance at a lower price.

Where is the proof to prove Crossfire scales better? everything ive seen SLI does better... Plus Crossfire is not as capatible with as many games as SLI is.

Thanks for that, I appreciate it.

You guys have any recemmendations for optical drive/ burner?
Or is the one I have choosen good.

Do I need a netowrk card? Or will the 1 on mobo be good enough?
