Build Link - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HRVqNG

Ok so I have been posting from time to time on here asking advice about a build. Finally put it all together and bought ALMOST all of my parts. I'm waiting for the ROG SWIFT to get back in stock at Newegg unless someone really changes my mind about it, It looks like an awesome monitor.

I am looking for input on what graphics cards to run with this build. Obviously this decision is between the GTX 970 and the GTX 980. Either route I will go with SLI. Really just want to know if 970s will have any issues at all pushing this monitor at high to ultra settings with comfortable FPS for the next few years. Would it be worth it for me to get 2 980's? Budget isn't too big of an issue.

I plan to eventually water cool so I am wondering what card will be best for this. Reference coolers or the aftermarket cards such as the gigabyte G1 or the ASUS strix.

I don't think you need to buy two graphic cards yet, since you only purchased 1 Monitor. I would say buy the GTX 980, it would last you for quite some time and a 3 Way sli GTX 980 is 80% better than a 3 way sli GTX 970.

"The GTX 980 is 20% more faster than the GTX 970. I think you need to do your own research Spooner."

Are you kidding me. Prove that as your Bias opinion is outrageously incorrect. Look at ALL my links I have provided. You have provided NONE to the extent that you are completely wrong. All you can do is criticise statements with NO support. Just for the sake of humouring you, 3/way SLI can actually DECREASE performance. There isn't even an 80% performance difference between 2 GTX 970 and 3 GTX 980's - SEE BELOW -

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_980_sli_review,1.html

"3 Way sli GTX 980 is 80% better than a 3 way sli GTX 970."

The scaling of 3 way SLI does not even make this of the nearest of true. YOU need to do some research for yourself. Three cards that that only perform 10% better cannot magically make a 80% difference with 3, see ABOVE.

"what are you on about? GTX 980 is not 10% boost performance over the GTX 970. That the GTX 780 TI."

The GTX 980 is only 10% boost, the TI is only edging the 970. Get your facts right. It depends on the game and optimisation.

If you are going to post incorrect information, don't post at all. Do YOUR research for yourself. Is a 10% increase worth almost double the price to you? That is the REAL question I have proven, you have proven nothing, let along linked anything.

Spooner, you should seriously get the GTX 980, this clearly proves why you should get it ^.

What do you mean? I said the GTX 980 is 20% faster. The OP has an overkill build, look at his CPU, i don't think he minds buying the fastest graphic card for gaming.

Again, this "20%" faster thing. To note again - Is this worth around double the price? - No. I do not care about what users can afford, I want what is best for the user that can get them by the exact same tasks for less. The origin of this debate was value/performance, you have changed it to best performance for who cares about money.

He has a 4k budget, his build is good and expensive, a GTX 980 would be good for his build. There no point SLI at this moment unless you plan on doing 4k display gaming. I would just get the GTX 980 since it is more faster and is currently the fastest gaming graphic card out there. A single graphic card will probably last you the next 2 years on max settings, so you don't really need to rush on SLI if you ain't going to do 4k gaming. Either way, your build is overkill, the suited graphic card for it is the GTX 980. I would recommend getting the GTX 980 and as soon as the GTX 980 Ti comes out, gtx 980 would be much cheaper and you should SLI it.

The release of the GTX 980 and GTX 970 is really cheap and equal, the launch of the GTX 780 Ti was $700 back then.

Whats your problem? Keep your opinion to your self. He has a 4k Budget. Even his CPU is more expensive than the GTX 970. Relax.

Budget dos not mean "use it all up and get the best".

There is absolutely no sufficient reasoning to waste more on the GTX 980 when the GTX 970 will be absolutely fine for his needs, for the price, you can almost SLI the GTX 970 for what you pay for (1) GTX 980.

"as soon as the GTX 980 Ti comes out"

Nothing said anywhere there will be one.

"a GTX 980 would be good for his build"

Isn't the GTX 970 good enough? -

I am still trying to overcome this quote about SLI - "3 Way sli GTX 980 is 80% better than a 3 way sli GTX 970."

I am going to stop here, your wasting my time and making me repeat myself.

Who says I recommend the build in the thread? I'm saying the build is EXTREMELY out of value, and we shouldn't make the same mistake here. Another point is that the guy in that thread also has too much money than needed: $6300. Doesn't mean he should while it all away on some computer with randomly selected parts.

All i am saying is that the GTX 980 is faster than the GTX 970. Prove to me how the GTX 970 is better than the GTX 980 because it is not, its only cheaper. In the end, its his choice to make. Its his money.

I have decided to do this post based upon this -

"Prove to me how the GTX 970 is better than the GTX 980 because it is not"

Are you actually kidding me?

I have NEVER stated this (If you ever read what I say), I have stated that it is far better value for money and is only a small margin of improvement. The links I post do not state that at all, they state the performance difference (which if you ever looked at them isn't huge). Please read and think before posting comments like that, it is totally irrelevant to what i have said.

The only websites that are 100% accurate are from Nvidia. Man, i hope you don't look at his PC build because if you do, i bet you are going to be whining and be like OMG, that CPU is so expensive, get this CPU it is much cheaper and the difference is not that much, oh please change your ram, this is a better ram its much cheaper and the performance isn't that great. Man i swear, i hope you don't check out his build.

Overall, the GTX 980 is the winner, you know it.

What was the initial argument?, and now look at what your resorting to and posting...absolutely pathetic.

I already know what is better, and if you ever bother to read my posts you'll know what I am saying to you. STOP changing up your comments to suit, and also stop changing up MY wording. You are one of the worst debaters I have ever seen, and never seem to stick to the initial point.

You are the worst, you said you are going to stop replying to me and you still do. My friend, we already know you lost, stop trying to regain power. The GTX 970 looses against the GTX 980. You are the GTX 970 and i am the GTX 980, You are weaker than me, i'm stronger than you, faster than you. You may think you can beat me by bringing another GTX 970 buddy of yours, but in the end i can just bring another GTX 980 of my self and still win.

Can you please recommend the OP a graphic card? You keep coming back here just to talk to me and unknown. You have joined the war my friend, there is no escape for you. AMD boy.

I'm not a AMD boy -- I've never used their CPU's or graphics cards, and never intend to.
I just think you're pointlessly arguing - and no, I have an escape route out of this, it's known as unfollow, which probably unknownofprob has already taken. Wise decision to escape out of such a pointless discussion, if you ask me.
As for the graphics card, I'm a fan of value, so I'd go with a 970 or 970 SLI. Since money is not an issue, OP can directly go SLI instead of waiting for the cards to be cheap. 980 is not that fast to warrant spending extra money, especially when there are rumours that 980Ti and R9 380x are around the corner.
