With the speed of processors at fx53 2400mhz or P$ 3600 mhz, it is not a difference in speed really, but in costs.
Real world users would probally not notice the speed increment, but would the price.
Am I wrong?

The FX55 runs at 2.6. The only reason I mention this, is it shows Amd closing on 3ghz.
As far as price point goes, the article at Toms goes so far as to say that the performance difference does not support the price difference in the Intel chips. I would take it a step further, and say it is equally true of all chips.
Intel's problem with Prescott has had a very negative impact on consummer pricing. Not that I begrudge Amd a little extra cash, but that seems to be turning into a lot of extra $.

Can anyone confirm that these new chipsets for socket 939 will indeed support dual-core next year? I hope it won't require more than a BIOS-update...

AMD has made public statements that they expect existing customers to be able to upgrade with nothing more than a bios update. Whether they meant their existing workstation/server customers(940) or all of them, I'm not sure.

I wish toms could do a liquid nitrogen experiment with the 90nm 3500+, or wait for a fully unlocked 90nm FX. I'd love to see a benchmark of a FX at 3.0-3.4Ghz zone.
