Question 4k to 1440p? Future proofing Monitor?

I've been looking at getting a new monitor, focusing on the LG 34GK950F-B (UW, 1440p, 144hz), and the Acer Predator XB273K (4K,1440hz).

My question is, would it make sense to buy the 4k monitor and bump it down to 2k until new GPU's come out that are the right price for performance?

Once you go ultrawide, you cant go back. I would go with the 3440x1440p monitor. Even future GPUs willl struggle to push that to 144hz.

I will second this. I upgraded to ultra wide monitor and playing AC Odyssey on it is pure joy. Colours on my alienware AW3418DW look amazing, they just pop out of the screen. Resolution is perfect as I can still manage most of the games with my old, tired GTX 1080. Hitman looks sublime too. The level of details and this aspect ratio fills all my peripherial vision. The curve wraps this beautiful picture around me and I am immersed like never before.
I sometimes play on TV and I like the size but I am not part of the game in the same way I am with Ultra Wide.
