but your missing another point, they could then release the iGamer (it hurts to write that btw) as their gaming line

IF some of you guys can't control your maturity and read with an open mind and don't stop insulting the author, or swearing at the site, then you're going to get banned. It's as simple as that. I don't really care what you say about Apple or Valve. Leave personal trash talk out of this and keep the site clean.

To those who I already kicked out, you saw the headline, it was Apple related. You don't like Apple news... don't click?

Here's a suggestion: Instead of clicking on something you didn't want to read anyway and then flaming, how about clicking on something in your browser that you DID want to see? That might work!

Zero tolerance for flaming each other or at site/author. This isn't your backyard where you can do what you want, it's a public site that people spend time to contribute positively and help keep clean. Don't come in here thinking you can mess the place up with comment graffiti.

I would quit using Steam if Apple aquired it. Apple is not a game focused company and does not cater to gamers. Apple caters to artists, musicians, and stupid people with more money than they know what to do with. Not to mention teh enevitable "apple tax" that will come with every game sale. I don't hate Apple, after all I love my iPod, but they are not a game comany, have never been a game company, and probably should just stay away from gaming all together. "PC" gaming is for those that like to build and mod their computers and you can't do that with MACs. I am happy to see that Apple is finally giving it's users access to games but they need to stay out of the gaming business!!!

I like Valve & Steam.... I admit I was a little torn clicking the link.
Sorry for having an opinion Comrade.

Tuan, thanks for moderating, and thanks Mr Gruener for this article. (although you can't ignore the fact that it was just a wee bit trollish) :) I'm pretty sure the list says "News" up above it, and while this isn't news in itself (the Steam for Mac announcement certainly was) I certainly appreciate your input.

@Forum:
1. Hasn't Valve always treated us well? Haven't most of us considered them to be honest and fair, providing us with an excellent and free service, as well as efficient and convenient digital distribution?

I personally think yes.

2. Has Apple ever done any of these things? Have they even shown an interest in these things? If you were to take an objective approach in comparing the features offered by both iTunes and Steam, would arrive at a conclusion that these companies shared the same ideals?

I would think not...

These two companies function on completely different ideals, business structures, ethics, and market. I don't see Steam going the way if the iBox or iGamer anytime soon.

I will continue to support Tom's, and it's authors. I will continue to ignore news articles about $300K Xbox's though. 😀

I mean, seriously... this wouldn't happen... and since when Valve (or Steam) is for sale? It really seems the point of this article was to create a really heavy rain of curses and a terrible discussion leading NOWHERE... I don't why this even got here as a news... did I miss something? Is there an intension from Apple to buy Valve... THIS WOULD REALLY PISS ME OFF... MAN I WOULD GO 'RAMBO V' and make a bloody massacre over this, I would... you got the point. I don't know, it would be really lame for guys on the head of Steam/Valve sell the company it won't happen and Thank the Heavens for it.

I will put as simple as I can, first the internet is every ones back yard and soap box don't like it to bad even China can't do any thing about. Second people are fed up with Apple crap, "5% of the market 75% of the news". Its flame bait however any one wants to put it. As for those how used so called profanity just use suggestive words in their place. Down ware I live we still practice the freedom of speech aka speaking our minds even if it is cussing like a drunken sailor.

Let's just assume Apple buys Steam. Then, Steam will have a white GUI, all pretty with bells and whistles ... but the games will be $40 at the cheapest.

Plants vs Zombies: $39.95
Dragon Age: Origins: $99.95
Dragon Age: Origins: collectors edition: $199.95

Yay! Apple tax!
Everybody, let's make Jobs richer, because he needs a new private helicopter to go to his new private castle on his new private island!

Wow this is an EPIC troll. Toms should stop looking at the crap comments posted and start looking at the crap article posted.

Seriously does this guy really think it would be a good idea for Apple to buy Valve?! If he does this guy should be sterilized immediately so as to not spread this stupidity to future generations.

Yeah lets just kill one of the last glimmers of hope we have as PC gamers, while we drown in the pool of excrement left by EA, Activision and Ubisoft. Seriously this guy needs mental help.

As much as I like steam, and as much as I like the mac OS and my iPods, I really don't want this to happen. While it will be a good business decision (and yes, it will), I don't want apple in control of my games. Apple's approach to business is getting less and less "think different" and more elitist.

Okay, I will put this as simple as I can:

I didn't say you couldn't voice your opinion on Valve/Apple/Company X, Company Y.

Leave the personal insults off the site.
Freedom of speech? Please, this isn't a political debate here. Do you go into a store, claim FoS and start cussing at the employees and not expect to get kicked out because oh, FoS?

This isn't some fantasy land. Sorry. There's theoretical and then there's the real world. If you misbhehave and act out of line in a public place, sooner or later you're going to get asked to leave.

I don't think it would make business sense for Apple. They would be paying alot for all the customers, services, and IP Valve owns, and basically be tossing out a lot of them. I'm sure Apple would kill of PC support which would alienate alot of gamers. If that happened, publishers would probably stop using steam, or at least put less effort into it, since Mac gamers are such a small audience. In the end Apple could simply be left with something that is worthless once they whip it to follow it's corporate drum beat.

I used to not buy every game I played. Now with steam I buy all of them and I know that I can rely on steam. Knowing Apple if it ever happen, I will switch back to my old bad habit and not paying for any game that time.

Since I have spend close to a 1000$ in games(at least in value) I deserved the right to say no to this(Just like a share holders)since the games are in an account that rely on Steam all the time, no physical value, just can't detach from Steam.

I don't want to have a control freak like Steve Jobs to says what I can play or not and so on. If they want to make some kind of deal to have games work for Mac they can go for it, but for Apple to buy Steam it would be like sh$ting on my turf, it would be nothing good for us. We need Valve to be independent from the OS maker.

I mean no offense, Gruener, but dammit, don't give Apple ideas!

Are you trying to ruin Steam for us?

Sure it could be great for Apple, as selling casual games is likely more profitable and just perfect for their products limited gaming abilities. But I don't see this kind of move beneficial in any way to Steam's current paying customers, at least some of which buy and play the more hardcore games.

Though not perfect, Valve is doing a great job maintaining the difficult to achieve balance to be fair to developers and their wide variety of customers, while still being profitable (and to think Valve was founded by ex-Microsoft employees). I'm not sure Apple are going to bother keeping this balance if they acquire Valve.

Why are there so many Apple fanboys working for Tom's Hardware writing articles like this?

Also... This would not help people that already use Steam move to an Apple computer if Steam was exclusive to Apple the vast majority would stop using it.

Here is why:
People like myself would not be unwilling to pay the price Apple charges for thier computers. This in turn would mean that 70% that Steam has would go down to almost nothing. People who buy apple computers don't typically buy it for gaming. Perhaps it would be a good way for APPLE to get deliver gaming but I would not buy an Apple computer just because they own steam.

sorry, but that one does not have the same flame war potential.
