Apple is too smart to buy valve. They know if they do millions of gamers will storm Infinite Loop and beat everything to death with crowbars.

My reaction to this: 😵 NO!!! You've got some balls for even THINKING about talking like that on a PC ENTHUSIAST website, keyword PC!!! WINDOWS AND STUFF!

Besides the title I don't know if this is the intention of this article but I understood Wolfgang Gruener did not imply Apple is going to buy the whole Valve business but just the Mac service. It would be entirely different with different implications. I think Apple should buy Valve's Mac engine and service and stay away of the Valve PC side completely as it is not necessary and I think on the surface that it wont make business sense.

But to be honest if Apple buys Valve completely and I were you I would be nervous because Apple may not be supportive for the PC counterpart. And it happened before with MS gaming acquisitions. Puff! bye bye Mac.

But again think about the recent rumor about ARM acquisition from Apple. Apple does not have that huge amount of money because the buy everything they can. Quite contrary Apple is buying strategic parts of business that are aligned with their vision and there you go with the suggestion from this article. And I like it.

On technical grounds alone there is no reason for Apple (read Steve Jobs) to buy Valve. The most obvious being that Mr. Jobs is far too stupid (as in prejudiced) to allow a Mac's GPU upgradability flexible enough to make gaming a sensible choice for purchasing a Mac to play latest generation games. The graphics technology shoe-horned into even the most current Mac is generations behind a Windows PC.

However, Apple (read Steve Jobs), already knows that the desktop PC's days are numbered and there are today thousands of games available for Apple's hand-held devices (which will get more powerful and support better and better gaming). Apple have the App Store and devs already write code for it, so why would Apple want to cloud the issue with a burdensome acquisition?

forget it.i would not want apple to go near valve and neither would millions of gamers.

apple will make a new gameplaying device that is proprietary and that is that.

Seem like a ridiculous thought pattern in this article. Not sure what was to be expected, just look at the comments. No one would support it because of the ideology of Apple and the inherent contradiction to violent or risque video games. What was the author smoking?

Don't know, but I see more and more posts disappearing every day. Silencing people on a tech site is inherently dangerous some of them are technically skilled and vindictive. Only bad things can happen that I can see.

This is the dumbest idea I've seen on this site in some time. Complete and utter ridiculous speculation about something that will never happen. Why on earth would Valve sell anyway after all they have achieved. Remember, the only reason why Steam was started in the first place was to deliver patches and replace the difficult way we had to do it before. Everybody on different versions etc... Steam was horrid when it began, now I would place the 'awesome' tag on it. I haven't bought a disc in a few years now, and I love it. The only thing I miss are the neat keyboard layout cards identifying what key does what. Think Mechwarrior 4, flight simulators etc...

I think the last 'box' software I bought was Guild Wars when it came out, and jeez, and they are on their 5 year anniversary now.

And iPad without a USB port still cracks me up.

If you can't comply with the forum rules, yes, your posts will be removed. It's that simple. 'Bad things' come from people who spew insults, personal attacks, and profanity. All it does is lead to more of the same. Keep it clean, and you'll be fine.

If you want to talk tech, go for it. I guarantee your posts will not be removed.

I already don't play any of the Half Lifes I own because steam has to be installed...that right there was a big turn off of Valve and Steam together. I would rather own the Box, Owners Manual, and DVD. I feel bad for all that have been sucked into the whole steam experience and like it. You pay the same for a game without any of the physical properties. What happens when steam goes down or some freak accident happens to steam? You playing steam games? Nope. Oh well you decided to download the content instead of visit your local video game store. JMO

the article could be titled "5 Reasons Why [Big deep-pocket Company] Should Acquire Valve" and still get to the same point

there should also be only 1 reason (you are just pointing to the same one anyways): BECAUSE STEAM PRINTS MONEY!

all in all, it will really be a sad day IF Valve sells to a bigger company

What's with all the boners for Apple at Tom's? This isn't even news, it's an editorial. Who the hell would actually want Apple to buy Valve??

[citation][nom]tuannguyen[/nom]...To those who I already kicked out, you saw the headline, it was Apple related. You don't like Apple news... don't click?...[/citation]
Not entirely fair, there are people who really like Steam/Valve but don't like Apple/Apple News and would be very upset if an Apple-esque walled garden model was implemented on steam.

Not sure about anyone else, but the Apple tax on Half-Life 3 wouldn't go too well. $100 for the basic version, I think not.

And for one, Gabe would never sell out. He loves what he does and loves the Steam community.

And we love Gabe.
