5770 Crossfire or Single 6870

Would I gain more performance with two 5770s, or should I just purchase a 6870? (I don't know much about the advantages of multi-gpu)

always get the faster single card. The only reason to go out and get dual cards strait away, is when there is no single card powerful enough for you. Get the faster single card, thus avoiding crossfire issues (there are a few, microstuttering/compatability issues), and you can always add another 6870 later. Dual 5770's are about as fast as a 6870 anyway. I would advise you get a 990 series motherboard to have support for the new AMD cpu's and all their features. Dont spends lots on a motherboard either, waste of money, better spent on a good CPU like an i5 2500k.

Two 5770's will probably out run a 6870 but if you get a 6870 now, you can add a 2nd one later. This way you have an upgrade path for the future. Two 6870's better than three 5770's!

I was favoring the idea of two 5770s, but have been convinced to purchase the 6870. Thanks for the info. Also, I did some research about multiple gpus after I posted this question, and found that a new single card is the way to go.
