6800gt vs 7600gt

I had some heat problems with my old 6800gt, and am getting a new card to replace it. I want to chose between another 6800gt and a EVGA 7600gt that is overclocked. The 7600gt is OC'd from 560/700 to 600/780. Sadly, the 7600gt has only 25 gb/sec vs the 32gb/sec in the 6800gt. I have three questions that I hope to be answered:

1. What is the bandwidth of a graphics card? What does it do? Is it the speed at which the info travels from, card to monitor?

2. 25 gb/sec versus 32 gb/sec. Will it make a difference, considering the speed of the two cards? It is only 7 gb/sec, but is that a big amount? I will be playing TES4:Oblivion and DOOM3; so will it be a factor in playing games?

3. Finally, which is better (for gaming, etc): the 6800gt or the 7600gt?

Thanks, and if you could give me anymore information, it would be greatly appreciated. (Maybe a better card in the $230 price range; PCI-E).

Why the heck would you go from a card that has 16 pixelpipelines to a card that has 12 ? You are going backwards. Want an upgrade, get a 7800 or better.

An x1800xt is a slightly better card than the 6800gt.... little faster.

and a little closer to your budget.
 
The 7600GT is definately better than a 6800GT. Not a big or good upgrade, but clearly better. The cheaper X850XT would probably match or maybe beat the 7600GT more often than not, but you do give up SM3 suport. Above a 7600GT, look at the 7800GT, but if it is priced near the 7900GT and X1800XT 256MB, then go with one of them instead.
 
save till u have 300, and get a 7900gt... its pointless to "upgrade" to a 7600gt... 128 bit interface (6800gt has 256) 12 pipelines (6800gt has 16) just higher clock speeds, if that, i duno specs on card... overclock ur 6800gt to get more life out of it, then when u can afford it get a 7900gt or somthing. theres no point in upgrading to get about 5% perforamcne increase
 
Yes, but you do mean that the 7600gt is better, even if only by 1 to 5%? That's all I want to know. See, I'm returning the 6800gt because it is a defective model with heat problems. Zipzoomfly is giving me a chance to replace it with any card of equal or lesser value (yeah, I know, what a good deal). The overclocked 7600gt is just the right price, I need it now because I want to be able to use my computer... I don't have time to save, even if I wish I could.

I just want to confirm that the 7600gt is indeed better than the 6800gt, for gaming or benchmark-wise. Keep in mind that my card will be overclocked to 600/1560. Thanks.
 
7600gt is better than 6800gt at stock... so yea, if ur returning it then get the 7600gt... although i dont see what u mean by "heat problems" ur case prob has no airflow or ur room is 100 degrees, also u need to give the card time to "burn in" if uve had it running for 48 hours and temps are still high, then sure exchange it for the cheaper/faster 7600... GL with the return

See if they'll give you your money back. Then get another $70 or so and get a 7900GT.
 
Thank you all very much for the help! I have decided to go with the 7600gt, due to the benchmarks on it. Thank you Pauldh for those!

For clarification: I have an ASUS en6800gt revision 1.01. They have an extreme heating problem, my card went up to 120 degrees Celcius while playing TES4:Oblivion. The card idles at 77 degrees C. Way too hot. ASUS actually made a new revision addressing the issue (rev. 1.02), but they stopped making the card altogether. The only response I got was to return it. Hence, I can only get an equal value card, and I do not have the time or money to get a better one.

The 7600GT is an AWESOME card!!
Nvidia has pumped the "full path 128 bit studio precision" interface to the max.
You won't know the difference between a 16 pipe 256 bit card and this 12 pipe 128 bit demon. It Kills!!!

(ol' 800XL only got 10,365....that's a 16 pipe 256 bit card....)

(X700Pro, now that was a crippled 128 bit thing...)

Great Rig.
I just got finished playing a round of Far Cry (1.33) and it looks/plays fantastic!
Standing in the water looking around at paradise.
SM 3 and Far Cry=Pure Beauty.
I should mention also that the auto detect will put your settings on 'Very High'.
