802.11n Capable Laptop Not Seeing 5ghz Band

So I just got a 802.11n capable laptop (Toshiba Satellite A505 with Realtek RTL8191se network card) but it's not seeing the 5ghz band of my new router (dir-825) even though it should be. What do I have to do in order to get my laptop to see the 5ghz band?

What makes you think it should? Most WiFI cards operate in the 2.4GHz. Dual band capability is not a standard feature...

Well the manual for the laptop warns about 5ghz laws so I just assumed it did 5ghz. If it can't, how do I connect to N on mixed N and G on the 2.4ghz band? It just automatically goes to G.

It will go automatically to lower rates if you are too far away from your AP. Is that what you mean?
