so based on the benchmarks by gamers nexus, the 9900k at stock versus a 5ghz overclock makes almost no difference in gaming, maybe 3-5 fps in certain games.
So i decided to not overclock it, because why draw the extra power and heat for no benefit in gaming?
My question is - what cooler would satisfy it?
I have a cryorig h7 currently which is slightly better than a 212 evo. It seems like that would be enough, but my other question is that the 9900k automatically turbo boosts to higher clock speeds in-game, right? and if it does that, then i would need a better cooler, correct?
just wondering if i should go for the arctic 240mm AIO to cool it, even if its at stock, and if not, if my cryorig h7 will do just fine (even if it does turbo in game to 4.7ghz or something)

Getting a better cooler wouldnt hurt.
Also, yeah these new cpu's boost so high that a OC wont make a difference.
What's the case?

Hello. I also have a 9900k paired with the MSI MEG Z390ACE motherboard, I use the Noktua NH D-15 cooler. Three processor overclocking profiles are saved in the motherboard BIOS.
  1. 4.9GHz, HT enabled - voltage 1.28, stress-test OCCT CPU core temp - 82ºC (max); stress-test AIDA64 (stress FPU preset) CPU core temp - 89ºC (max)
  2. 5.0GHz HT enabled - voltage 1.34, stress-test OCCT CPU core temp - 88-89ºC (max); stress-test AIDA64 (stress FPU preset) CPU core temp - 96-97ºC (max)
  3. 5.1GHz HT disabled - voltage 1.32, stress-test OCCT CPU core temp - 81ºC (max); stress-test AIDA64 (stress FPU preset) CPU core temp - 88ºC (max)
But in games, as well as in video rendering, such temperatures are not achievable.
