Question A wireless file server... on a boat.

I live on a canal boat and I would like to build a file server that works with only USB ports. I would like to try and make it wireless. I was thinking to buy a WD My Passport 4TB and then buy a Rapsberry PI and connect the Hard Drive and download the needed software. I just cannot figure out how to make it wireless. What software should I need?

WD makes a passport with built in wireless. would that not save a lot of hassle?

perhaps I still do not understand what your trying to accomplish. what OS's need to connect, how many devices/clients? is this just for you or an office like setting (multi-users/multi-permissions/printers/etc)?

Add a cheap WiFi router to the mix. It will provide for WiFi, and DHCP for devices.

What the ^first guy says, they sell wireless storage, why bother building your own, then u don't have another box to worry, take more space. Just don't buy the kind with built-in encryption (for mobile safety), your boat is pretty safe. Encryption adds a layer of complexity, for example may not be upgradable later should u want to replace it with a larger capacity without replacing the whole box.
