Hi,

I'm trying to come up with a highly economical yet upgradeable system. Does anybody have any suggestions for this configuration?
I went with the high quality mobo so the the processor can be upgraded when prices come down. The same for the video card. This system is
not for a gamer so I think it is adequete. I would really appreciate it if everybody gave their opinions.

ANTEC PERFORMANCE PLUS Model# PLUS660AMG w/ 330w truepower $94.99
ASUS A7n8X deluxe $140.99
AMD Athlon XP 1700+/266 FSB Thoroughbred Processor CPU 1700+/ 1.47GHz $61.00
CRUCIAL MICRON 256MB 32x64 PC 2700 DDR RAM x2 $80.00
WESTERN DIGITAL 80GB 7200RPM EIDE MODEL # WD800JB 8mb $96.00
ALC650 6-ch w/built in amplifier $0.00
ATI OEM RADEON 9000 Atlantis 64MB DDR W/TV out NO DVI $65.00
Asus TV Tuner Card/Video Capture Card, PCI Retail $69.99
MCP integrated NVIDIA® MAC + Realtek® 8201BL PHY $0.00
Lite On 52x24x52 CDRW Model LTR-52246S $48.00
SONY DDU1621(DDU1611) 16X DVD ROM Drive $42.00
Logitech Z-340 3 Piece Speaker System $36.00
Hitachi CM721F 19" Flat CRT monitor $247.00

I just specced a system and am picking it up tomorrow. I was advised to avoid the NForce2 chipsets as the shop I picked has had many failures. Therefore, Via.

Note that if you are using XP, 256 mb of RAM is the Minimum recommended. 512 is better.

For $25 or $30 more, you can get a 2100+ or 2200+.

Just my two cents.
Chris

The Nforce2 boards are, in most people's opinions here, better than the VIA boards. I've built one system with the A7N8X and had no problems.

I think it's a pretty good setup. I didn't really check the prices though.
