Ac'97 and HD?

Ok so my case comes with two connections for the audio, one is ac'97 ( i think is the name) and the other HD? How do I know which one to connect? Do I have to have an HD sound card to use HD?

Another question: if i connect my headset to the back is it automatically HD?

Most new boards will require the HD lead to be connected for functionality.
Once the HD is connected to the mobo audio header you can use the case fp or the back for your headset.

Read your motherboards documentation to be sure the audio connector is a dual AC97/HD and if it is then you have your choice of which one you want to use. There is a bios setting to change between the two types but my motherboard automatcally changed itself when I went from the ac97 to the hd front panel connector to see what the difference was.
