I want to buy my parents I a nice Smart TV with very good picture quality, around 43-inches. They use for mostly general watching and for when the grandkids are over for YouTube/kids tv shows etc too.

I am also looking for a new TV for myself, again mostly for streaming but I do very occasionally play consoles/watch movies too. A 55" to 65" would be the ideal I think.

Originally I'd considered LG OLEDs, but I'll be honest reading about screen burn etc, while I appreciate it's probably not common as such, has put me off an OLED TV for now.

Brand names aren't important to me, as long as the TVs are likely to last years and have great picture/sound quality ideally. Was wondering about Mini LEDS as I've now decided against an OLED.

Budget wise, I was looking up to £2000 (between the 2) if anyone would have any suggestions I'd appreciate it! I'm based in the UK.

Thank you

While it is true that OLED has burn-in issue, same isn't with QD-OLED (quantum dot OLED). QD-OLED uses different technology, making it immune to burn-in, while still offering the stunning image of OLED.

For 2000 quid for both, you could get e.g Samsung S90D 48" for 999 quid for your parents,

And same TV for yourself in 55" size,

Though, it would go 200 quid over the initial budget, but if you want the best, well.... 200 quid extra would be small price to pay.
Or the same 48" for yourself too, making total cost 1998 quid.

My humble opinion here. Don’t use the smart features. Get a fire stick 4K max or something like that. Don’t even connect the screen to the Internet. Just my opinion. I had a friend who had issues with a smart TV. Factory reset it and got him a regular Roku device and years later the TV works fine without using the internal smart portion.

I am just of the opinion that using all the smart functions long term might put more strain and heat on the internal components. Personally I’d rather replace a fire stick than a screen.

At work we like the Samsung qled screens. But honestly I’ve got a cheap tcl roku TV at home with a fire stick 4K max that the tv always goes directly to. I’ve had that screen 3-4 years and for TV and movies it’s pretty good and has a good picture. Tends to be on all the time.
