Advice please ASAP!

Im fighting the clock on this issue, so if you all dont mind please flame me later and save the AMD comments for now. Ive been watching E-bay for a Intel 3.73 EE and have finally run into 3 that look promising. One ends in a few hours and is probably going for around $700.00 The one that I am really considering the hardest is only an hour away from me and the seller told me that I was more than welcome to drive up tommorow to look at it. Hes selling it along with an ASUS P5AD2-E-Premium MOBO this MOBO cost around $230.00 Its the same one that I already own. I dont need it, but could sell it or even put my current CPU (3.4) in it and sell it as a package deal. The buy now price is $1000.00 which is what the CPU retails for. Iwont give that much, and feel like that when im standing in front of him with the cash that he would probably take $800.00 for the combo. The thrid one is 5 days from closing and its the CPU only the buy now on it is $800.00 and I just dont think that is a wise choice if I could get the retail version for $200.00 more. Which route would you guys take given the situation?

I'm not an intel guy. Sorry. Personally I stay away from e-bay. $200 more is 25%, which I'm not sure is a fair premium just for the fan and warranty.

If you could get that first one for 700 would be best, that way not buying what you do not need.
Otherwise, the second option might be the best, since you will get a chance to personally meet the seller and inspect the parts.

Will the 3.73 EE overclock much better than what you have now? I seem to remember reading something about ultra high OC's are not as high due to the larger cache.

This is intels best. One guy in the ORB runs his at 4.7 with no problems. Not even trying hard. This is the CPU that broke 7Ghz. Its not the regular 600 series

I would make make the guy an offer of $850.00 and I bet he would take it. Then I would have thesame board that I ahve now that I could sell my current CPU with

If you get the CPU/Mobo for 850 and sell your current cpu/mobo....what would be the cost of that?

Well, I bought my current CPU for 199.00 brand new but it was luck that I got it for that especailly since that was 4 months ago. The MOBO's cost $230.00 so I have $430.00 in my CPU and MOBO. His combo is new and would cost $1330.00 at Newegg. Im not sure what I could get for mine

I would probably be out of pocket around $600.00 for a system that would have cast $1300.00

So if you can get 350 for your setup and only spend 850 for his setup then the upgrade is only 500bucks.

The second one (mobo and chip) looks like your best option.
I would love to see what you could do with a venice core, but hey, the EE should be a great ride.

Stable at 5.5Ghz if its a slightly better than average chip im going for the world record. I think thats it 7Ghz It will go straight to the liquid Nitro if I see that its a good OCer

Im going to do alot of reasearch tonight, I may decide to go with AMD instead. Ive really been wanting to see what I could get one to do, the only thing that I dread is haveing to learn something all over again.

You really should get to know Fugger if you're going to do all this OC'ing. You sound like you're on a mission- it should be interesting to see how far you can go.

i would not trust e-bay for critical parts, they will not give any kind of warranty. Buy from someone like newegg or ecost.
