After reset CMOS battery PC wont start

when i removed and again placed the battery the PC wont start, before that PC was working well. i removed only for delete Cmos password

Did you unplug the power cable? Also, did you reset the jumper pin to clear the CMOS? After that, you should get a prompt at reboot to reset your BIOS configuration (usually press delete) and reset the BIOS to your hardware specs.

If you get none of this maybe you should try another CMOS battery...

What actually i have done is, my friend sets password to CSMOS so to remove that password i turned off the supply of Pc then removed CMOS battery then for just a one second and rubbed it on cloth to clean it and then placed it on motherboard, but PC is not giving any kind of response such as SMPS Fan is not working, Processor fan is not sowing any kind of response but keyboard light is fluctuated once, before this situation my Pc was staring directly i have only Power LED, reset SW and Broken HDD LED connection. My mother Board is too much old, i purchased in 1999 having name something ..80 batch.

Remove the battery and wait for 5 minutes to make sure its reset. It takes a little while for all the power draw to leave the motherboard from the battery. There probably is a CMOS jumper pin on your motherboard that you can also move, it should look like this:

Default - [o o] o

Reset - o [o o]

Wait for 5 minutes or so and move back to default and all of your BIOS settings should be reverted back to factory settings so you will have to go back and reconfigure your BIOS settings to your current hardware. If you aren't sure what the correct BIOS settings are to set them back to then try to go into the BIOS before you reset it if possible.

You didn't give enough time for the motherboard to lose the power draw from the battery so wait at least 5 minutes, it doesn't normally take that long but will do the trick...

But the problem still persist, i removed battery for 5 mins and jumper reset for same time, means i remeved battery and kept jumper for reset at same time but problem still persist. Only keyboard blink just once and no fan movement including SMPS and processor and nothing on monitor(blank with power light blink) Main problem is no fan movement...

please reply me waiting for reply and thanks everyone again

When shorting the pins to reset the CMOS, you usually only need to short them for ten seconds, not five minutes.

Beleive it or not I have a similar problem on my Mobo, its an ABIT IN9 32-MAX WIFI. It just froze once and couldn't hold the power button to switch it off. I had to switch off the supply from the back. Once I turned it on again, the LED's in the mobo to light up but pressing the power button won't switch on the motherboard. all fans remain still. Resetting the bios, removing the battery never helped. Only once with the psu switched on, the fans started working but again I had to switch off from the back of the PSU. I don't know what the problem is. Tried changing the PSU and also tried my CPU on another pc and worked fine. There must be something wrong with the mobo. Any ideas?

Still Computer wont start...

Can this be a problem with the bios chip? Can we just replace the bios chip with one compatible with our mainboards and work? Remember I have similar problem, mobo won't start at all.

Obviously as I stated in that same statement you quoted me on. I have had instances where 10-15 seconds didn't work so it doesn't hurt to overshoot on the time it takes to be sure plenty of time has been taken.



Are you sure your power supply is ok? If you are certain it is then maybe you can check and see if there are any new BIOS revisions available and try and flash your BIOS to the latest version. Did you install new hardware/software recently that could be causing the freeze up? I'm afraid to say that ABIT's quality fell to the waste side and its likely to be a known issue with that board. Google your motherboard model and see if there are any other postings with the same issue.



I'm thinking power supply at this point. As old as your system is you have gotten way past the life expectancy of any power supply used in those systems back then. If you can get a power supply tester or just buy a new psu and take it back if it doesn't fix your issue. I just hope it didn't damage your motherboard on its way out.

I did not new installations, and I cannot reflash the motherboard, it won't even power on! let alone flash the bios 🙁 it only worked by itself the last day with the PSU power on, the mobo just started turning the cpu fan and vga fan, then had to power it down again..no sign of life since then just the mobo leds light up when the psu is switched on but the mobo itself wont switch on

Done that too, both my PSU and CPU work fine. Had to buy another mobo, I still got the faulty one though, hoping I can RMA it back since it's been less then 2 years from purchase date.

Sounds like you covered your basis and just need to work on the RMA.

To the OP, I would recommend the same thing, test or replace your psu. If that doesn't work then the motherboard could be bad too. It would be time to consider a new build or prebuild system. I prefer the new build, it's easy to do...

I had a similar issue with my motherboard (Biostar 865 G Micro 775).
There was jumper settings on my motherboard as mentioned by englandr753.
Default - [o o] o

Reset - o [o o]

I removed the power cord from the PSU & power supply cable to motherboard. The battery was NOT removed.

Put it like that for 1+hours and connected the power cables back, and everything went fine.

Hi guys,
The other day in my bios I changed the option of os from wondows to other os and when I saved and exited the pc shut down.
Then when I turned on my pc there was no display and no power to the keyboard and mouse but the pc was running. This was happening repeatedly.
Then I pressed the clear cmos button after turning on the pc and since then the pc keeps on restarting , you can hear the fans and light on the motherboard but no display.
The pc starts for few seconds then again stops then starts . Its like a continuous cycle.
Its not a ram problem nor the graphic card slot problem.
Motherboard - gigabyte ga-z87x-oc

What I did was reset the CMOS couple of times then cleaned the PC a bit and then removed my CPU , graphic card and then put back all the components again and then it worked.
Try removing the CPU and putting it back again.

Hi guys I also have similar problem but a little bit different, so I cleaned my pc a couple months ago and accidentally remove the cmos jumper cap. I put it back in this setting: o[o o]. After reconnecting my pc, I turn it on and all seems well until last july 2015 my pc started booting up slowly. I did not do anything and stil used my pc as is until another problem occured but this time it shuts down slowly. So I tried fixing it and returned the cmos jumper cap into this: [o o] o, and cleaned my pc with dust,but when I reconnect all and turn on my pc, It wont turn on, the cpu fans, vga. I thought my psu broke but LED light from the power button is on. So i need some opinion from you guys. Did i fry my mobo???
