AGP HD 3850 Temperature Question

Hello,

I was playing around with the ATI Overdrive and it overclocks my SAPPHIRE HD 3850 512MB GDDR3 AGP to 709/939 but it gets really hot (110°).
What temperatures are safe?

Ho my god 110° !! you are going to kill your GPU I killed one HD 3850 256 pci-ex because I had o/c it with the cooler stock. Her t° was 95° max in game
 
Well I wanted more speed 🙂D) and so I overclocked my HD5850 alittle and opened up Furmark to test for stability, I left it running and went to the toilet, when I got back my VDDC's were at 126C and the GPU was at roughly 90C.

It would have been fine except I forgot to up the fan speed from the lowest (20%) before I started Furmark. I thought it was very quiet 😛 lol.
 
Before you do more overclocking experiments, check if your card still has a warranty.

If not, then accept the risk you can kill it and get ready to drop some coin for a replacement.

Why overclock when your CPU probably isn't bottlenecked by your GPU? And the overheating risks and the stability issues you gain probably isn't t worth the 2 percent framerate improvement that you won;t even notice.

Too hot. Actually, I'm surprised it got that hot. In the high 80s you should begin to seem some artifact and around 100C it gets so unstable the driver generally crashes. Anyway, for a safe temp don't go over 90C. As for the clock speeds lower to 700/875. Since I believe that the heatsink also cools the memory chips on that model having a more reasonable memory speed should help.

The card has no warranty anymore but insane how much it can take. I was playing with 100°+ for more then 30 Min then I thought it would be better to go back to the normal speed.

I am aware of the bottleneck problem. In fact I sent this email to two shops in the area:

I am not very picky when it comes to motherboards. The requirements would be: compatible with my old CPU (AM2), 1x PCI-E video card slot, 3-4x PCI slots, 2x memory slots, 4x USB slots and not a very expensive one.

Video cards is a little different. I am looking for:

-Radeon HD 4770
-Radeon HD 4850
-Geforce GTS 250

----

So I am going to upgrade to PCI-E soon :)
 
I have using about year ago my good old Geforce fx 5900 and it has temp when playing video games about 120°C and working perfect.. 😀 😀
