I'm just curious because i don't have experience in this even though i'm an Junior IT Guy.
So i have this WD Elements External Hard Drive 500GB, well... no important files, i want to transfer files from my PC to my friend's Laptop.
I plugged it, it detected like usual, i copy my files to his Laptop, all done
But then when i check my Drive in his Laptop, all my files is gone, but still take space, i already do "View Hidden Files" nothing happen, plug it in my PC it's still gone, i check it in my PC with Avast Antivirus, it detect some virus i recognize some of it, but i know it False Positive, but what i don't know is this files

Z:\Kaspersky\Usb Drive\3.0
and there's also 1.0, 2.0 folder

There's 3 files in 3.0 folder: "2.dat", "6.cmd", "Nerowaveedit.dat"
I never see it in my life, i also try to access the folder, all i can access is the Kaspersky folder, with manual command in Explorer, but nothing inside the folder, while all my files that gone are inside that Usb Drive folder because Avast pointed it, but i can't access it

This also happen to his External Drive, he can copy new files and access it, but old files that already inside external drive is gone
So... is it a virus inside my friend's laptop? or just his laptop faulty?

Download a copy of Kaspersky Rescue Disk on a computer you know is 100% clean of viruses (not your computer and not your friend's).

Create a bootable USB Rescue Disk.
https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/free-rescue-disk

Boot both computers from USB and scan for viruses. You can try to fix viruses, but I prefer to reinstall Windows from scratch.

Do not plug your WD Elements drive into any more computers for the time being. If it contains a virus, it might infect another computer.

If you have other copies of important files saved elsewhere, do not connect them to your computer until you know it's virus free.

Avast Antivirus, it detect some virus i recognize some of it, but i know it False Positive
What does Avast detect that you think is a false positive?

I already plugged my WD to my PC and thank god my pc still okay, i tried using Disk Drill to see if i can recover the files that missing, and yes, i can, when it recovered the file path like Avast told me

Z:\Kaspersky\Usb Drive

All the files inside Usb Drive folder, but well... i decided to format my WD and it run like usual.
But what i don't understand is that... What is that though? I never encounter like it before, it's like this "Kaspersky" hide the files on purpose, because the files are not detected as virus, and still can be recovered

A KMS file that i save in it 😅

Well...
Outside a corporate environment, the only reason for that KMS is to pirate the OS and other software.

Tom's Hardware takes a hard line on piracy. No assistance at all.

You can continue to believe it is 'safe'. But it almost certainly isn't.

End of discussion on that.
I do not promote nor ask for any piracy stuff

What i want to ask is that "Why all my files missing when plugged in"
Because it's weird encounter for me, not detected as virus yet easily recovered 🤔

I know you didn't.
But this discussion may have uncovered a problem you didn't know you had.
I know, and i see your point...
But that's not helping, because his drive is the first one plugged in and the files is gone, and then he asked my help to see if i can see any problem or at least a clue in it, i tried to transfer him antivirus file from my pc but as i said before, all my files are gone when i look at my drive in his laptop

So it's a big NO for the KMS topic, just... stop, i know what i'm doing, but not this "Kaspersky" one
