I have a dell with a 3ghz intel proc. I bought that before i really started reading forums about how amd is so much better and faster for gaming. So then i bought a new computer( like 8 months ago) with a amd 64 3400 proc. After using the 2 computers i have to say that my load time into windows xp is almost 15-20 seconds faster than my amd computer. I also checked the bios and made sure that they werent checking for floppy drives and stuff. I would overclock the amd if i could..but the motherboard doesnt support it... So i was just wondering is a 3.0ghz intel supposed to open apps faster than a 3400? I havent run into any scenerios were the 3400 beats it...even in loading games.

For windows, your Amd system is waiting 30 seconds to see if you want to load a different os. You can change that by typing in msconfig, in the run menu.
There is not a single thing that a dell 3ghz computer should do as fast as a decent build on an A64 3400.
I suspect that you need to adjust your bios. I also won der if you have all drivers loaded.

I wonder if he has VIA inside...

Lol

one time, my 3000+ would take up to 3 minutes to boot. Sure enough, a clean install has put the thing wel near the 30 seconds.

Boot time is not a CPU thing, but rather an OS and HDD thing. messed files and slow HDD are likely to have more impact with machine of this calibre.

Now, you have to differency POST and BOOT. POST is when system detect devices and BOOT is when the OS start to boot.

True, one can hardly blame a cpu if things like Quick mem test are disabled etc...once it starts hitting the drive/OS, thats where the differences should be minor, if any.

(Does the "boot" time include simply reaching the desktop, or include all the other services and bloatware?) 🙂
