Hi I continue my quest for the best CPU for gaming but also as important if not more video rendering!

I currently have an i3 2100 rig with a 7850, seems okay but lacks the raw power when under massive stress like rendering hd video or using blender. so it is time for an upgrade.

MY H67 MOTHERBOARD IS FAULTY!

so i am going to do a much needed upgrade.

The options are the AMD 8320 which i just have a weird feeling about making me really want it.

My other choice is an i5 2400 it is currently cheap, but only have 4 cores not so good for the future!

Please fight it out to help me choose! i sway between the cpus everyday but cant decide.

PLEASE HELP ME....................

Thanks Guys

is the extreme3 any good for small overclocking?
i read some reviews saying for an 8320 it isnt very good but there where also lots of other good reviews

The Extreme3 isn't very good for OCs and the BIOS can get in the way with the 8320. Here are some ASUS Boards you may like,
This is good for Overlocking http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-M5A97-EVO-R2-0-Motherboard/dp/B008RPZ5H8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1364146992&sr=8-3

I will see if i can win the asus sabertooth first but if not i will get the other ebay asus board!

is the sabertooth a better board? or the Asus M5A99X? i would imagine the sabertooth is the best because of the fancy name is this true?

The Sabertooth a better board but not by much, it is just a M5A99X with some plastic armor (keeps the Northbridge cool), ROG stickers and a a little bit better OC potential . This one is very similar to how the LGA1155 Sabertooth works as it is literally a P8Z77-V PRO (1155 Equiv to M5A99X) with plastic armor and a fan. The M5A99X will likely fit your needs, I will try to find a cheap 990FX Sabertooth.

haha i did look at this a few minutes a go and am temped!

the only thing stopping me this that it £330!

The 8320 is £128 on ebuyer and the used MOBO you showed me was £65 so that comes to £193 ish which is a whole 100 and a more cheaper.

Go for the M5A99X R 2.0 and be settled with your nice gaming rig if so. selll the other parts and you will have lost about 30 GBP. Remember to get the PSU, that 7850 really needs a CX600 or higher (a few posts above)to handle the 125W Vishera.

Seeing if i can win the sabortooth first, but if not the M5A99X will be chosen! Thanks for all your help

When i set the pc up will i need to remove everything off my current HDD's and SSD? only asking because my steam libary is over flowing haha and will take forever to re download

It is a case of maybe, take precautions back up all your files. I am scared that the 990FX Sabertooth won't work but then again returns are accepted :)

If i get it for the right price then it will be worth it! if not never mind life goes on haha and i will have the next best mobo you showed me

Don't know where you got that info from, but that motherboard supports all AMD cpus, all the way upto 140w.

He has re-listed it, you won't get better for your money to be honest. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-990XA-GD55-AMD-990X-AM3-SATA-III-USB-3-Motherboard/171013181027?ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1&ih=007&category=1244&cmd=ViewItem

would this be enough to power the system? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antec-VP-550P-550Watt-ATX-12V-V2-3-Power-Supply-Unit-Ex-display-Unit-/300878855356?pt=UK_Computing_PowerSupplies_EH&hash=item460dc6fcbc

seems a good price to me, what do you think?

Added it to my watch list i will see how my bidding goes first

thanks

A good review on that power supply, only a few negatives and a lot of positive feedback. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Antec/VP550P/1.html
It will be more than powerful enough for your system.

really? im going to run an 8320, high performance mobo, 7850, a hdd and a ssd, sound card, dvd drive, 5 fans, 8gb ddr3 and a good cpu caller! is it really more than enough? is my 460/480 80+ ocz enough?

The 480 OCZ has no chance, the 550W Antec will be enough and the CX600 or TX650 quite a few posts above will be plenty for future upgrades.

Understood and did you win the Sabertooth 990FX?
PS: As a precaution, back up everything and perform a clean install of W7/ whatever OS you have before upgrading. It is case of maybe that if you move the HDD/SSDs to a new mobo and proc that it'll work. Plus you will have a backup if it malfunctions. :)

I didn't win the sabertooth in the end out bid by £2 on the last second 🙁 nevermind who ever won it got a fantastic price! I opted for the msi 990XA in the end because it was it was new and only £60 with the option of return! Now I need to get the psu and cpu cooler haha! Probably will get an antec 550P 550W because I cant really sli unless I go over 750w and the likely hood on me buy another 7850 is slim while they cost £130

Oh great the seller pulled a rip off on the M5A to 99GBP. If you got the GD55, return it as it may not be able to support FX63xx/83xx processors from the get go and go for the GD65.

Haha what a tale this has turned out to be! I bought the msi 990xa but this evening go offered the sabertooth by the sell for £70! so i have cancelled the msi board and have now got the sabertooth. Then as soon as i open up my email i see you recommended against it! well lets hope the sabertooth is the right choice. Thanks again for your help

: DDDDDDDD The Sabertooth is brilliant for OCing with it's 8+2 Power Phase. Was it an R2.0?

Yeah R2.0, is it worth me upgrading my case as well? So everyone can see the beast of a machine! But more importantly how big a cpu cooler will a 200mm wide case take,? Manufactures website doesnt say 🙁 at a guess I would say 150mm anyone else agree or disagree?
