Where is the availability mentioned in 2017?

AMD and Globalfoundries announce 14nm silicon

/edit.

this is a really annoying - where are the links?
no one should take anyone's words alone.
keep in mind you might not find the old posts if they were moderated. so, please post the links.

The hexus link gives the link to the Stateman article. If you follow the link you can find (twice) the claim of first Zen products coming in 2017.

The Anandtech link doesn't reproduce the official announcement published by AMD when Keller left. The official announcement said Zen will be "sampling in 2016". AMD didn't say release in 2016.

That statement article itself provides no source for it's 2017 claim. So we still only have your word on it.

like Carrizo paper release date months before OEM's had anything with the FX8800p and still nothing with FX8800p running at full 35W.

This is likely what will happen. Also everywhere it's written that full revenue year is 2017, that means the chip must be released in 2016.

AMD could release the chip on February or March and still claim full year revenue, because would report Zen revenue for the first quarter financial report.

If amd did full release in February or march and still claimed full year revenue wouldn't we at least see youtube reviews and the such by December 2016?

juan I think we understand your argument for 2017 as delays are almost expected anymore but I have a hard time seeing a delay this time as amd has literally nothing else they are working on. graphics division has been split off and first apu's are essentially the merlins falcon SoC's that are already out. we have proof of new cpu's already tapped and being tested. I mean that's an entire year to iron out issues for what is already working with nothing to bother you during the process. I would be very surprised to see a delay this time around.

"“We believe our marketing accurately reflects the capabilities of the Bulldozer architecture which, when implemented in an 8-core AMD FX processor, is capable of running eight instructions concurrently.”

The responses are pretty entertaining "AMD came up with CMT", not that was DECAlpha.

Lawsuit is BS. Still marketing can really screw things up.

Do you guys think amd will secure a second gen x86 based console?

I would say that their current gen consoles were a design win through and through. that APU from 2012 is still faster than the best Carrizo design or the desktop kaveri (godveri) design.

whats your speculation as to what the new console apu would be spec wise and if amd could secure the bid?

There is no reason to provide excavator cores in 2018, if the 2018 information is right.

this article never mentions excavator cores... If we follow the trend of the past and look toward the promises of the future we can see puma style (low end cores) will continue and (will?) be used in new console for cpu power.

excavator is the high end core design... plus will be 3 years old at that point. will be a second gen ZenLP design.

He did only link to the old FAD slides, when Keller was in, when the GPU group didn't split,... And saying "will only launch" is saying nothing. It could be a Q4 2016 paper launch with Zen being only available on February 2017. It happened before. E.g. the Kaveri-based A8-7600 was officially "launched" in mid-January but wasn’t available to retail customers until the second half of the year.

With the success of PS4 and XBone I'm sure they could secure another win. This generation is ahead of the last generation in total sales.

8 Core Zen+ 4096 GCN2 (10nm)

Lol! AMD tells the plans haven't changed since FAD and you're still adamant about 2017.

Yeah, my mistake. I wanted to edit it to old cores but was too sleepy to do it.

I should note that Juan and AMD aren't technically mutually-exclusive,. if AMD is talking in terms of Fiscal Quarters, of which Q4 2016 occurs during the start of 2017.

I still hold there will be a paper launch in 2016, but you won't see mass market availability until late Q1 2017.

Unlikely. MSFT and Sony aren't going to be looking for new components for a decade, and Nintendo is almost certainly going ARM based on it's mobile focus right now. Steam Machines are bias Intel for performance reasons. And so on.

Where does he say the plans haven't changed? What he says is that he doesn't know beyond the information given by his superiors at FAD 2015: "Beyond that, I have no more information."

My bet is February--March.

He said that beyond FAD statement about zen no more information could be provided now. So officially there is no change yet.

isn't amd making the arm chip in the Nintendo?

last console lasted 8 years. that was 3 years longer than the trend follows for new consoles. if they go back to the original trend of every 5 years or lets say VR becomes something people want to do... new consoles will be needed! playstation VR is already in the works :/ . 5 year trend puts us in 2018.

you both think 8 core zen+ (high end core) with 4096 gcn2. if that was a semicustom APU I would expect 8gb hbm on that as well.

I personally think that's too expensive. I expect 8 core zen- (low end core) with 2896 gcn 2 and 8gb hbm (a hbm version of Hawaii.)
