AMD Dual Monitor

Well I bought my HD Radeon 6870 a while back i have the double dissipation XFX, i recently decided i wanted to take more advantage of my GFX card and decided to purchase myself a DVI to HDMI cable to dual monitor, my issue is now that only one screen will work at a time, i have a HDMI to HDMI cable (Of course in the HDMI Slot of the card) and a DVI-I cable in the DVI Slot, What i would like to know if this is a common issue or wether or not their are any solutions.

plug in both monitors
Boot up windows
rt click on the desktop
select properties or screen resolution (depending on what version of windows you have)
click on the shadow monitor
select "extend desktop"
Apply
