Dynamic I/O bus introduced in K8L architecture
AM2 get upgraded to AM2+: AM3 is postponed!
Gud news + Bad news :!
AMD to enter K8L era in 2H 2007
AMD Quad-Core Altair upcoming in 2007 Q3
"X4 one targets for the mainstream segment with SMP (Symmetric Multi-Processor) technology."
"Based on K8L architecture, Altair has upgraded Instruction fetch to 32B, enhanced Branch Prediction and Out-of-order load execution, with Double Precision FLOPS/cycle, 128Bit SSE, and Load per Cycle. AMD claim that the new architect would get a great improvement with more than 40%!"
This is funny?

Now it doesn't take a genius to figure out the marketing genius behind using the term 2H07 rather then 3Q07. Yes, K8L will be released in the 2nd Half of 2007.. but during the 3rd quarter of 2007. Which means Jul/Aug/Sep of 2007.
Now, it also doesn't take a genius to note that if AMD are successful in adding these new features to K8L then it would indeed be faster clock for clock then Intel's Core 2 architecture.
The kicker is the process that will be used. AMD will be using a 65nm process while Intel will be using a 45nm process. We've already seen Core 2's reaching in excess of 4GHz with the 65nm process, Intel is said to be releasing the 45nm Core 2 Quad's with clock speeds in the high 3GHz+ range.
Therefore if all this pans out I foresee both AMD and Intel being competitive in the Performance/Watt category, Intel Dominating in the Performance category and AMD dominating in the Performance per Clock category.
That's my prediction with the information currently available.
