Much better for mainstream users... if there can be a mutant 790GX Chinese Mobo, there can be mutant DDR2 880G mobos, probably up to the mobo maker tho...

This would make real sense.. Why dont some one put ddr 2 and ddr 3 sockets on the same board like Gigabyte did on one of their Intel boards...

Every one is sitting on ddr 2 by now most with 2 gb sticks so to me that would be worth it..

Im still peed off about AMD dropping ddr as with TC..

So im not gonna go down the DDR3 route with AMD.

Anybody considering an AMD CPU upgrade or a new system may want to hurry up, since they are possibly going to be harder to find: AMD Letting Production Slip Below Demand

If in the next few months you have a problem finding an AMD processor to buy, there's a reason.

AMD lowered its manufacturing rates during the fourth quarter, in part to reduce its inventories in response to flat or down market demand, Rob Rivet, AMD's chief financial officer, told investors in AMD's fourth-quarter conference call Thursday afternoon.

"We're slowing everything down quite a bit," Rivet said.

Neither Rivet nor AMD's president and chief executive Dirk Meyer indicated whether or not such manufacturing cutbacks would be across the board, or just in particular segments. Meyer alluded to a "severe industry correction in the IT supply chain, especially in notebooks," and both executives indicated that supply and demand were out of whack in the notebook segment.

I did notice an inventory reduction writeoff in AMDs Q4 report. If the P2s become more unavailable, then I'd guess AMD is having trouble ramping them up. Presumably the older 65nm CPUs would be ramped down first, since they are likely less profitable than the newer 45nm ones. Anyway, looks like Q1 is shaping up to be another loss for AMD, and maybe Intel's first loss in quite some time.

Intel is doing the same with its fabs, just as Nvidia will also reduce its production, since its partners have already cancelled at least 400,000 GPUS orders so far. In Brazil I can still find a B2 Phenom almost everywhere, so it makes perfect sense for AMD.

The GTX200 series was a bust for Nvidia, ATI really snuck in the backdoor with the HD4000 series. The 4870 is down to $190, $60+ cheaper than the GTX260 and basically the same performance.

BTW, while I was refreshing the page I couldn't help but notice a banner about Dead Space with the following statement: "NVIDIA SLI WITH CUDA - GAMING JUST GOT BETTER" (and you gotta be kidding me). Now I'd like to see CUDA speed up my ADSL and USB too (SB600 here).

Am I the only one that's surprised that Nvidia keeps insisting that Dead Space be used in all of their reviews considering that cards from 2 years ago can max it out? I honestly don't see the point in even reporting on it if the current cards are getting well over 100fps in the game.

To me it's really not all that surprising, as I sold my EVGA 7800 GS OC for $115 on Ebay 2 months ago. Still can't figure out why? But what the hey, bought a 9800GT the week before at NewEgg for $114 after rebate. I took the money, but meh... go figure.

Personally, I find amusing that Nvidia is able to repeat the CUDA mantra even when talking about games. WTF does it have to do with SLI at all?

AMD might as well say: "Experience the true feeling of gaming with ATI Crossfire with Brook". It makes no sense after all and it spreads "misinformation".

Perhaps Intel should make an ad like "INTEL CORE I7 WITH C++: THE BEST JUST GOT BETTER".

imagine digging out and old video card you had ages ago - ooh a 7900gt for example and sticking in with a AM3 - now that would give you performance.... not..
