We have had several requests for a sticky on AMD's yet to be released Piledriver architecture ... so here it is.

I want to make a few things clear though.

Post a question relevant to the topic, or information about the topic, or it will be deleted.

Post any negative personal comments about another user ... and they will be deleted.

Post flame baiting comments about the blue, red and green team and they will be deleted.

Enjoy ...

I see why you are enjoying the new unit...
(even if it is FX-8120....😉)

really though it seems like you planned it out well and I know you will enjoy.
I had wanted an enthusiast-level computer for many months before. When the chance came i wasn't going to squander it. Like me and some others were talking about before, BD in the eyes of someone with an aging system is still a major upgrade.

TIP FOR ALL BULLDOZER USERS: SET AFFINITIES.

apparently if PD is as overhyped as BD was, china and the US economy will completely cave in on itself and the world depression will start a black hole at the LHC.
Sounds not so dissimilar to Baron Matrix's tremendous theory that Intel's release of a $183 Core 2 Duo CPU, caused the GFC.

I'm extremely happy that loading the forum doesnt make my cpu hit 100% usage anymore.

I think the BD was a step back to take more steps forward. When you're climbing a mountain, you can keep following the same path up all the way to the top,but at some point or another, taking a step down and in the new direction will make it much faster/easier. If that makes any sense.

Thank you for your sacrifice. :heink:

Most people when they get a new system, get the best system for their budget, that they can, not simply something that is faster than their old system. :pt1cable:

AMD Radeon HD 7900, HD 7700 Series Price Cuts..."

Nvidia Calls for 450mm Semiconductor Factories..."
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/other/display/20120412203432_Nvidia_Calls_for_450mm_Semiconductor_Factories.html

Took them long enough to cut the price. The GTX680 has been undercutting them since release and every GTX680 we get at work, as hard as they are to get at all, sells before we even get them in.

As for the 450mm, isn't Intel already going for that? On a good process it could be a major benefit. More dies per wafer would mean lower costs per die meaning either better prices for us (yea, right) or better margins for the companies (more likley).

how's that HD 7850.?
Awesome. It's fast, and what really took me by surprise was how cool it is. After an hour of minecraft (it can really cripple gpu's, if you didn't know), it is still only warm, not hot enough to burn, even, to the touch. Everything I've tried runs at highest settings smooth as butter.

It was the best for my needs.

Hi Viridiancrystal:
I have Minecraft w/ a GTS250. It spins up but is never crippled. What feature does so?
Usually maxing the render distance and fancy leaves will take it's toll. I'm also running a High-res texture pack, which you may not be.

Ok...
Load up BF3 at ultra or metro 2033 and watch it burn.....
Minecraft is as basic as it comes....
Ever played it?
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-review-benchmark,3148-6.html

the 7850 runs 55 fps in BF3 with high graphics. My minecraft runs about 45-50 maxed at the same resolution. Ask me or ctbaars, the game is far more taxing than it seems.

well if you just bought a new card or a used one then stress testing even without overclock the first day or two to make sure the card is okay makes sense IMHO

also with a new build if you want to check temps and how your case cooling is then stressing is good
using Furmark is quicker way to check temps than gaming

those are two ways I can think of where there is a reason to stress test when not overclocking

but I also think 8 hr runs of Prime 95 is not necessary to check a CPU overclock

but what would I know
I am just a simple "Google Tech" LOL :)

minecraft!
is it like age of empire?

WOW Don't go their that's my favorite game for the PC...but then again i always like games like that, i like being able to play 1 map for a long time or such i'm just not a fan of COD or even BF3 i like my games to be more then just shoot and run. Even though COD and BF3 is not bad i just cant stay on them past beating single player.

there will be substantial changes in both cores and system architecture from Steamroller onwards, that should help make AMD competitive closer to the top.
For the first time, some execs do acknowledge that Bulldozer approach may not have been the best one at the time, and things need to change.
right on!
edit: btw, is the allegations about hector ruiz taking bonus while amd was doing badly, true? i didn't use to pay much attention to in depth tech news back then.

You do realise Neb is about as good as Fuad - he was a writer for Fuad for a while.

The grammar is terrible.

I think the entire article is made up on the back of 3 bottles of cheap plonk and a discussion with a few imaginary friends though.

Neither have inside connections with AMD, though Fuad is friendly with NVidia.

seriously, how's minecraft compared to Gmod?
The major difference I know, is that in Gmod, you get everything and then can place it down however you want. In minecraft, that would be the equivalent of creative mode. In survival, you have to go and collect all of those things before you build it, which in the end makes it much more satisfying to complete. Minecraft also has an incredible fan base supporting it. Thousands of people have built maps where you start somewhere specific and follow the path given to you through traps, puzzles, ect.
For how simple it is, there is so much that can be done in it, and it never seems to get old.

AMD to survive and thrive, still?..."

http://vr-zone.com/articles/amd-to-survive-and-thrive-still-/15564.html

The twelve hour resting battery life is great but I wonder how Intel will do there. Their Atom for tablets is said to have 30 hours battery life in the same situation. It may not be a full CPU like a Core i3 but still its impressive.

I guess we shall see. AMD needs to pull something amazing out soon or they may just well become #3 in the CPU game.

Huh ... how .. what ... brain .... hurting...

I am off my rocker or did you just compare an Atom to an APU? I m ean ... Via Nano's crush Atom's, and this is Via we're talking about. AMD's E series crush's Nano's, A4 APU's beat E's. So ... your comparing, with a straight face, the bottom most processor capable of running x86 with the highest mobile CPU AMD makes. That's as bad as that Anandtech review discussed earlier.
