We have had several requests for a sticky on AMD's yet to be released Piledriver architecture ... so here it is.

I want to make a few things clear though.

Post a question relevant to the topic, or information about the topic, or it will be deleted.

Post any negative personal comments about another user ... and they will be deleted.

Post flame baiting comments about the blue, red and green team and they will be deleted.

Enjoy ...

Might as well have a BD comparison also, so here is mine.

The PD sample shown was a sample, and we can all pretty much agree that it's voltage is probably a bit higher than it needs to be, or will need to be.
Either way, if PD is to be a success it will have to do well outside of clock speed.

I have a machine with 8gb and a machine with 16gb and 8gb is plenty
of course years from now you will need the 16gb but as it stands I rarely go over 5gb of used ram
unless you are running Virtual Machines in which case you need to have the ram

Do you prefer the flat head or phillips head? :pt1cable:

I don't know, I just don't want to become interested in a cpu that sacrifices cpu power for graphics power.

AMD Next Generation Codenames Revealed: 2013, 2014, 2015 GPUs Get Names

Sea-islands (HD8xxx) to get Unified Address Space between the GPU and the CPU. Furthermore, GPU will be able to page system memory using CPU pointers, bringing full memory coherency between the two

HND887x to target GTX680 level performance.

Bring on 2014: Volcanic Islands

2015: Pirates Islands

Exciting times ahead. But then, they always are.

"Sea Islands will spend better part of the year without the real competitor, as NVIDIA will only offer refreshed Kepler until Maxwell comes along. "

Some good news for AMD if true.
They need all the help they can get until Steamroller.

my two cents -
2014 seems like the year common platform alliance becomes effective.
chances are amd realized how much more powerful kepler is and they are trying to compete in terms of pricing instead of raw gaming performance.
amd wants to extend hsa regardless of hardware platform.
amd seems very serious about workstation-class apus as they don't make anything specifically (cpus) for workstation sector. may be that's why they're using the igpu advantage to penetrate workstation market.
cpa includes samsung so amd will have access to their fabs... :)

So I have been messing about with a few samples of the existing Zambezi line up and trying to as accurately as possible get result, also gaming results. I had sent a EMail to AMD with the results which differ from results around the web and echo sentiments of a lot of AMD users.

The reply was somewhat disappointing but understandable. Basically they are aware but to engage in benchmarketing campaigns costs millions that the company would rather put to use elsewhere. They now adopt a no response policy to many instances.

Basically they know the results are skewed in some way but don't want to do anything.

For me what I hope PD and SR represent is 1} lower power and heat and 2} multi card scalability notably on higher end GPU's 3} Gradually improving the IMC.

not really don't want to, more of can't afford to. If they throw $1M at the game devs, Intel will just counter with $10M.

but this is some interesting trio of news.

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/news/games-news/amds-gaming-evolved-program-snags-far-cry-3/

Far-cry has been primarily an Intel cpu dominated game, but this article is talking about gpu tweaks.

In other news, AMD is not the only company losing high-up employees. Nvidia http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/news/nvidia-rocked-by-mobile-chiefs-departure/
And OCZ http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/news/ocz-ceo-leaves-company-in-apparent-ousting/
