We have had several requests for a sticky on AMD's yet to be released Piledriver architecture ... so here it is.

I want to make a few things clear though.

Post a question relevant to the topic, or information about the topic, or it will be deleted.

Post any negative personal comments about another user ... and they will be deleted.

Post flame baiting comments about the blue, red and green team and they will be deleted.

Enjoy ...

that lone guy thats posting those pre-orders, man is he getting some website hits for that.

Hey look - someone jacked up some pre-order pricing, lets link it to every tech website on the internet.

I don't think there is one yet that hasn't parroted the stupid BLT website. Same thing happened when they "pre-order" for bulldozer, selling the 8150 at $300.

but you know what, sheer genius, look at the free marketing hes getting.

here is your salt 😉

By now, it is an old reply, but yes, it is more like 2.1 generations. Good catch, and my bad. 😉

Heh, you mean like "Sandybridge" to "Sandy", or "Ivybridge" to "Ivy" 😀.

So there's precedent. But I'd agree most people will eventually just type "sr" and everybody will know what they mean..

Well if you look at the next release, Excavator, and apply the same principles we'd have Steamy --> Sex 😀

Hmm, hope my wife doesn't see this post 😛..

It doesn't look like AMD believes them

Just look at AMD's public roadmaps. They are building their CPUs on 28nm next year, and no longer hoping on some pipe dream that GF will be ready with their 20nm promises, let alone the laughable 14nm targets that will not just pull in the process node by a year, but implement tri-gates on top of it.

Considering how long it takes Intel to get a new node good enough for production, I doubt GF will get 20nm on time, never mind 14nm.

Well, even if the stock goes up because of that "announcement", it will drop dead once they don't deliver, so it could be a cause of a law suit if they lie so blatantly.

Besides, for all we know, Intel could just be taking it slow since they have no "serious competition" whatsoever in the manufacturing business for complex chips.

If they can deliver, then let's cheer them on, since it would make it fun and better for all of us 😛

Anyway, Steamy sounds... Well... Good, haha. It gives it a refreshing air to acronyms for CPUs 😛

Cheers!

i have repeatedly blamed glofo for bd and llano. also said that glofo is very much behind intel in terms of fabrication. if they do deliver 14nm-xm on time and cpus/apus have good yields on it...it'd be awesome. it still won't be "real" 14nm for glofo.... :)
right now, though, i'd bet on samsung. and amd + samsung combo when common platform alliance becomes effective.
@codename typing: already shortened to SR, PD, ivb, sb and so on... may shorten excavator 'exv' when time comes... 2lzy2typ... *yawn*
amd should deliver product as "big sounding" as their codenames. 😗

Whilst you are hiding behind another silly "if", you should cast your mind back to 2007 when IBM(as Tech Leader for their Fab Alliance) said they were just as far along with HKMG as Intel was.

They were just as far ahead in producing Powerpoint slides, but unfortunately they were 4+ years behind on the commercial reality.

History gonna repeat here? Looks very likely IMHO.
