I see no reason to buy a new CPU until a newer generation is released that is not vulnerable to Spectre/Meltdown.
We seem to be in an era where there's a continuous stream of vulnerabilities getting announced, so any new chip will be vulnerable to something and require a performance-robbing fix of some sort.
True enough but Meltdown/Spectre are extraordinarily bad, impacting a HUGE swath of CPU's going back many years. Nothing is "safe" or fool-proof but that doesn't mean all bad things are equally bad - some are much worse.
