Not 100% trusting BUT like i said before the closer to launch expect more reliable leaks

http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-7-1700-overclocked-4ghz/

1700 Overclocked 4Ghz all cores.

From reading that and other sources i do think Ryzen will not overclock nearly as well as skylake or even haswell so don't expect kaby-lake OC's.

I agree but you are talking about a decent single core issue i mean if kaby lake can get 5Ghz easy and is 10% better in IPC that is a decent single core disadvantage(for ryzen) like 25+%. Could be a reason why people buy Intel if they only game. I personally wouldn't i'm just stating the facts.

2-3 years ago, i'd agree with you that single core speeds are the aim for gaming oriented consumers. But these days with DX12 and Vulkan catching on, I think multi core is winning out, that's why Pentium and Core i3 sales are down.

Personally i'd pick 1800X or 1700X or so but i will say single core performance will always matter 12 and vulkan has done NOTHING to improve the CPU bottleneck actually just recently Jayztwocents made a video that showed more CPU usage with 12 then 11 on paper 12 sounds fantastic Microsoft is gold when it comes to hype but in reality we haven't seen anything impressive as stated by me awhile ago no magic software will save processors with terrible single core performance in gaming.

BUT ryzen seems to have Haswell level of IPC which is great but kaby-lake will see more FPS in games until they really use all 8 cores heavily sadly we need Intel to drop prices of their 8 threaded CPU's if not developers will not target that as the norm as Amd is like 20% of the market at best.

Watchdogs 2 really uses 8 threads well a I7 compared to a I5 is actually a decent difference look for ryzen benchmarks at gamer nexus for those results soon i bet they will compare the 1700 vs 7700K.

Again i'm just trying to stay logical i already know i'd personally go with the 8 cores and take the small 10%(recommend others to do the same) or so difference in FPS for now. I will love to see the 1700 vs 7700K on many gaming benchmarks.

Agreed and that did indeed happen i will never stay quiet if someone is trying to overhype, Amd can't afford that.

Having their own foundries is a huge plus in a lot of ways, but its also incredibly expensive to maintain, especially with so many of them being located in areas where the workforce is paid significantly better than their competitors. They can afford to cut prices a little bit I'd wager, but I don't think they're interested in a price war as of today. They've got plenty of marketshare to spare and could let AMD go all year without retaliating.

Agreed.

Indeed. Look at the people that predicted 3x256 bit FMAC units. RyZen is 2x128bit. They were wrong by a huge 200%. Or look at what happened when CPCHardware published the 5GHz easter egg. Several news sites and forums spread the belief that final Ryzen could surely OC to 5GHz on air all-core. And, what is poor, many people believed it! Now several overclockers are saying that they are finding problems to pass the 4GHz mark with watter cooling on the retail chips.

Among all the sites and forums I know/visit, I believe Tomshardware is the one that has maintained the hype under control and expectations for Ryzen realistic. I think all of us can be proud of that. Sites have gone completely crazy are WCCFTECH, Semiaccurate,...

In regards to OC, it's not like Ryzen having issues going past the high 3GHz range wasn't predicted or anything.

So far, it's looking like Haswell IPC, maxing out around 4GHz or so. The advantage is the extra cores [which will look REALLY strong when benchmarking] and cost, at the expense of absolute performance [Intel should remain ahead, albeit by a VERY narrow margin]

The price of decent 8 core chips has just came down considerable with the event of Ryzen... I think developers were slowly upping their thread count. The new battlefield springs to mind. But imagine they will even more so now because of Ryzen. The market is changing at the moment for the better and that 20% market share could be on the up with a bit of luck..

Hopefully they have plenty of chips waiting in the ranks and ready to go.. I was thinking this could be the reason we are just getting Ryzen 7 at the moment instead of the full line up.. which I taught was promised at CES (correct me if i'm wrong here)...
I was thinking maybe they didn't have sufficient numbers for a hard launch across the board and decided to just go with Ryzen 7 for now...

I'll be the guy to disagree then :)

Yes, Intel has better IPC, clocks and single-core performance, so they will perform better in games. I'd say that in most games, the i7-7700k will outperform AMD, because of these reasons (base 4.0 GHz, turbo 4.5 is a lot).

BUT remember that it's been around one year that games have started dropping Visheras from their minimum specs, so current games will see a 30 to 50 % increase in performance by upgrading to Ryzen. Then, because Ryzen is the lowest denominator, and it should sell like crazy, developers will use it as baseline performance if using few threads (because of lower single-core performance), or will use i5's and R3's as the minimum (because of true quad cores).

Intel will get better frames in a lot of games, but just like Vishera a couple years ago, Ryzen will deliver good performance as well, so it won't matter to many people if they can get like 5-10 frames out of 90 or 100.

Well, they didn't assemble an hyperthreaded Pentium on a lazy weekend, right? 😉

I think they are in deep trouble in the short term, if they can't get 6-core i7's on 1151 sockets.

There in trouble alright no doubt in my mind 😀

Don't underestimate Intel, I don't think they're in deep trouble, they're a big company with significant engineering chops and big resources. They could lose 20% of their market share and still control a majority of CPU sales.

What that WOULD do is give AMD a nice jump in resources for more R&D. Helloooooo competition.

Well it's gonna take them three years to redesign their chip from the ground up... plus they are hitting the wall with their current architecture already... As the lady say's AMD are just getting started.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do it in less than three years... I'm sure they are already burning the midnight oil on it. They may drop a lot of older instructions sets. We might even be looking at a true 64bit chip.

When they finish their new architecture I'd say the tables will turn again.. but until then..lets breath in the fresh air.

I think more like a year.. they have known about this for some time. What I really hope is the AMD can build their market share to 40%+. Another thing to keep in mind is that This is just the first iteration of Ryzen, it will only get better.

An what a busy year it will be for AMD... I doubt they have any spare change for R'n'D at the moment with all thats going on...

I fear you may be right, I just hope AMD's comeback isn't too short lived. lets face it they are battling a Titan.

Although I do think they are gonna get everyone's business as everyone wants to keep the company alive. Nobody liked the way things were going and no one wants Intel (or nvidia for that matter) to have a monopoly.

I'd like to use a quote from Charlie from his article

"Cinebench may be seen as a non-representative benchmark for some but SemiAccurate is confident that Ryzen’s performance will hold up across a wide range of benchmarks. This last bit may explain why Intel PR sent out a last-minute “call us before you write” email to most of the press, but not SemiAccurate, after hours last night. You could infer that they are suddenly really worried about something. In case we read that wrong, they should be."

What to say really? I think most of us are happy, how can't we with all these things happening and after all also for our "pockets"?
Maybe even the environment is happy. (TPD stuff .. even if more ppl will consume silicon in these years, maybe)
Anyway what AMD is doing is so cool and game "changer" (even if it is doing it since years from Graphics on Consoles and micro devices many have or carry on themselves) that Ryzen\Zen By AMD should be renamed again

AMD ROGUE. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CuyLbC2TZo (May wind be with you, Street fighter Guile thing was nothing ...)
Please AMD distribute some T shirts and fun storytelling ... thanks

viva la revolucion...

Good stuff good article... great times. Excited now. Definitely gonna build a Ryzen PC.. I'm trying to wait until after the first wave of boards.. See how they all run etc. But have to admit getting caught up in the hype can't help it.

At last it here an it's even better than we had dared to dream of !!
