I got my PhII X4 955 a few months ago for 160$
OCed to 3.8Ghz , this thing just rocks , no need to spend double the price for intel only to get a few more fps.

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]Don't get me wrong I'm glad AMD is around but come on...put out a CPU that gives intel a run for it's money![/citation]
I do the same thing, and when I do I look at the needs of my clients... Last gaming build was an Athlon II x3 @ 3.1 Ghz... He was quite pleased...

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]AMD is a generation behind intel and will be for a long time at this rate. I've been hearing about Bulldozer since what 2009? Bulldozer won't be out until 2011. Intel's Sandy Bridge will be here this Fall so AMD will be a generation behind...again. Thumb me down all you want. I build and sell computers for some extra cash and none of my customer's want AMD. I only use ATI cards but will never put an AMD CPU in anything I build.[/citation]

You're only limiting yourself. You can make much better margins for basic machines on AMD's lower end CPUs

[citation][nom]maxiim[/nom]Time to buy a new CPU I guess, though my Phenom II x4 940 at 3.8ghz wont be beaten out by a wide margin.[/citation]
I wouldn't bother upgrading that CPU unless you're planning on building another rig.BTW I obtained the Phenom II X4 940 about a month ago when it was still available at newegg for around $118.It came with the CPU heatsink and fan too.

For the love of God, please change the picture viewing mechanism on this site. Every single time you want to view a picture, it RELOADS THE ENTIRE PAGE!!!! What nonsense! Check out this Anandtech album from a review and how to do it right. Please Tom's, stop this foolishness.

this is old news... i built a system for family member... and was like what! i over payed i just bought a athlon x4... then i remembered i payed only 107 anyway... maybe ill go check to see if it didnt drop from the etailer

Got me a Phenom II 965 today on newegg for $165 plus a $10 promotional gift card - and not only that, but I also got a combo deal with a heat sink that had $10 off of it ($50 originally) for $18 off. All in all, I saved about $58!!!!! Today was a really good day. 😀

yea well lets see how that goes, as far as we know the lower end models will be capped when it comes to OC'ing and I doubt they will be cheaper than a current i7 920/930.

Dollar for Dollar you can get AMD's top teir desktop processor (hex core WITH AN UNLOCKED MULTIPLIERZOMG!) for $6 more than a i7-930 priced at $289. A Black Edition 965 (Quad core) is $165. That's the cost difference of a water cooling loop. I dunno about you but a watercooled Phenom is a lot more attractive to me knowing that 4.2Ghz is a 24/7 stable overclock compaired to an i7's "it better be the dead of winter" attitude when it comes to long term OC on the stock heatsink, which if we're talking dollar for dollar because you'd run out of money on the i7 and be stuck with the stock cooling.

I have nothing against intel's offerings save for 2 things, they'll change the socket design again in a year, and the cheapest good processors will still be over $250usd

Any pansy can build a PC...

[citation][nom]Trueno07[/nom]I like Intel, i just don't like their prices and all their damn sockets. It shows too, i choose AMD when building my rig.[/citation]
Same here with all that you said...

[citation][nom]BassDX[/nom]So, with the 955 at $145, why didn't they drop the 945 accordingly as it costs $140?[/citation]

I think a big reason is that the 945 come with the tdp 95 watts, so motherboards with max 95 watt tdp would still have to get the 945. Sounds sensible. And yeah, sweet deal is definately the 965 one.
