ATI has legacy and that name is known for a long time. Whoever did research on AMD part did it absolutely wrong. People know ATI and they think of video cards right away. What will happen is that AMD is going to lose sale big time, just sit back and watch.

With all due respect, did you read the article? Do you even know what "ditching the brand" means? ATI isn't being axed, as ATI is an AMD 'brand' which AMD now decided to, for no other reason than marketing, redesign. It's just a sticker, the logo, etc which are being redesigned, without any critical change to the operations of the AMD's graphics division. Who the hell cares about a logo?! Relax and enjoy the products and pray that nvidia's new, shocking success continues to roll so that the prices come down and stay down! Stop caring about brands...

Oh man, I am going to miss the ATI brand, my first Video Card was an ATI EGA card way back when. And although the change was inevitable ATI will be missed.

Whats up with people saying they like the old ATI logo over the new AMD logo. It's the exact same red logo. In all reality AMD is dropping most of their green cpu and chipset logos for a simple red ATI logo that only says "Vision". AMD will now be using the former ATI red logo much more prominently.

PowerVR is still around. They're doing quite well, actually, with their chips in nearly every goddamn phone made in the last 3 years.

I guess I'm the exception to the rule. Because I've ALWAYS called them ATI, even today. Radeon isn't part of my vocabulary at all. It's an ATI 5850, or an ATI 5770. Not a Radeon 5850 or 5770.

It's like called the GTX 480 a "GeForce" instead of an nVidia product. I just simply don't do it. Personally, I think ATI and nVidia are stronger than Radeon or GeForce. But that's me.

Wait, what?!? No! Seriously, when people ask about my computer or graphics card I always tell them it is an ATI. I would never say just Radeon because not enough lower tech people know what the heck that is with saying ATI Radeon. I have always been a loyal ATI consumer (heck I won $10,000 to BestBuy through ATI) and I will hate to see the name go.

Agree....

Hope next time people will not get confused when they are asked to buy an Intel/AMD latop for their kids....lol

seriously it's been 4 years!

if the spirit of ATI had died it had plenty of time to die, it's been all AMD for a while now and i dont think they done too bad a job so far

Its sad but true in the modern era of mega corps, corporate branding is not so much important as product recognition, team jerseys are no longer sponsored by Sony and Microsoft, they are sponsored by ps3 and xbox360. Sony learned this lesson the hard way by letting their walkman brand die off (recently reinvigorated into smartphones and mp3 players), in the long term Radeon is more important then ATI, frankly no one cares as long as Radeon carries on as a competitive product, as said it's been AMD for a while now, ATI has disappeared long while now

tech geeks will know the difference even if a new type of graphic cards will come out with different branding names from the previous generation. I won't miss anything as long the technology keeps improving and easy to idenify it in their ranks through model branding.
