I think this leaves plenty of room for change. Although I'll miss seeing the ATi logo, I think we all realize that this is really going to boil down to three major competitors in the CPU/GPU market: Intel, AMD, and nVidia, because no doubt nVidia will enter sooner or later to offer its own edge. The way I see it, when AMD bought out ATi, it was a brilliant move to enter into the world of CPU/GPU competition, opening up for two markets, and now nVidia is on its way. Intel is still powerful as a name, but I think if nVidia steps up to the plate, and with Intel's lack of GPU research, gamers and graphics enthusiasts will lean to the companies that provided the aesthetic appeal of computers.

I'll miss ya ATi, tell Voodoo to stay put.

I'll miss ATI, but everything is all together now. Chipsets transitioned from ATI label, now GPUs will too and it will strengthen AMD appearance.

I like that AMD will be getting some of the much needed credit for all the hype "ATI" has been recieving lately from the general masses.

[citation][nom]wishmaster12[/nom]Hopefully the name catylst will go away too, catylst sucks. get a real videocard driver name! you will for surely sell more cards[/citation]

The name is fine...it's the actual drivers that leave a lot to be desired!

I think this is a good move from AMD. I was wondering how long it would take after the merger for the ATI name brand to fall away. It only makes sense.

When fusion comes out we will all see what these two companies have taught each other, and I can't wait.

Smart move to preserve ATI characteristic red tones. Green would look awful on a high end video card.

I'm still an an AMD for CPU fan and an NVIDIA for GPU fan. The Fermi architecture will surprise everyone. They are having problems now because it is hard to redesign a chip and make it perform better at the same time. But over time, Fermi will be competitive with AMD, and it will be multi-purpose.

It is ironic that AMD would be more competitive with Intel if they had Inte's 32nm manufacturing process, and NVidia would be more competitive with AMD if they had AMD's 40nm manufacturing process.

I remember having lots of problems with Catalyst when I had an ATI card. What made me switch to NVida though was the Linux support. Nvidia was more pro-Linux back then. Now I would argue both are, although I never checked back to see if CrossFire is supported jet on Linux.

Think this is a good but stupid move.

Another news website mentioned that people are more likely to recognize the word Radeon and FirePro ???

I know Ati and model number and maybe once seen the word Radeon so Radeon = 1 point and Ati + video card model number = 17639 points in my book.

What the heck is a Radeon or FirePro ??

All I know is that **30 is pathetic cards , **50 is server video cards, ** 70 / **90 is decent cards for desktop use.

Say goodbye to the old logos and say hello to the new ones with the ATI stamp.

... typo: either change ATI to AMD or change 'with' to 'without'.

In any case, I agree with the timing. I'm going to miss the brand, though.

All of your opinion are reverent for me but ...
I'm completely disagree with these changes. Do you know how many engineers try in how many years , to enlarge the name of ATI ?!!! How many nights which they didn't sleep ?!!!
Now AMD wants to kill this name with its money.
I NEVER forget my ATI Radeon 7000 .

its a smart marketing move by AMD , ATI is a great name in the Graphics world and this year they outed nvidia so droping ATI brand name for AMD could give the AMD CPU market a boost

Boo for getting rid of ATI, but I think it's the "Radeon" brand that is more recognized. They were ovservant enough not to change that at least.

We could have had a whole lineup of AMD UltraForce GPUs that would have confused the heck out of everyone. Pretty much what happened to ThinkPad when Lenovo took over, they were smart enough to leave that brand as is.
